Drone2Map will not create project

Drone2Map 2025.2.1 will not create project after specifying project name and location, and loading photos (only 65). I press the create button and nothing happens.

IT support was able to successfully create a project while running the app as Admin. Unfortunately they have no idea why it works that way, and not under my credentials. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi @PaulJordan,

Based off the error (ProjectService::UnpackProjectPackage Failed) and the fact its working with admin permissions I believe you are having an access conflict with either that path or another one that Drone2Map uses.

Do you have full access to another drive on the same machine? If so, you can try to create a project there and see if works. If it does, then the issue is most likely permissions based on the C drive. By default, Drone2Map creates the projects within the documents folder to try and avoid those conflicts (C:\Users\<username>\Documents\ArcGIS\Drone2Map). You could also try creating it to that path.

If you still have issues creating the project on the C drive after your IT has verified your permissions, then you can ask your IT to provide your user account with access to some of the temporary paths that Drone2Map uses, specifically:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Drone2Map

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\ESRI

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Esri

Hope that helps narrow it down for you. If not, then I recommend reaching out to our technical support to do some further troubleshooting within your environment.

Hi Mark - Thanks for the tips! I have verified that I have full permissions on all of the AppData folders, unfortunately I still cannot create a new project in the default locations or on the external drive where I usually create projects. Old projects do open ok, so it's only create that's giving me grief.

Hi @PaulJordan,

Considering the issue is persisting and you have verified the permissions then I would recommend doing a clean reinstall of Drone2Map. It possible something got corrupted during the install.

Here are the steps you can follow to make sure Drone2Map is completely removed before reinstalling:

Uninstall Drone2Map from the Windows applications window
Navigate to C:\Program Files\ArcGIS and if there is a Drone2Map folder there delete it
Navigate to C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Esri
Delete any folders that contain "Drone2Map" in the name
Navigate to C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\
Delete any folders that contain "Drone2Map" in the name
Navigate to C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\Esri
Delete any folders that contain "Drone2Map" in the name
Use Windows search to search for regedit
Open Registry Editor
Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI
Delete the Drone2Map folder if it exists
Delete the ArcGIS Online for Drone2Map folder if it exists

If after Drone2Map is reinstalled you still get the same behavior, then I would follow up with tech support. They can help verify the installation looks good.
