I have a problem installing ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.1.

"ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.1 cannot be installed until the following products are upgraded or uninstalled".

Any suggestions?

Following these steps, I was able to get past that error:

1) Uninstall ArcGIS and all ArcGIS applications on the machine.

2) Uninstall all Python programs from the list.

3) Delete the following directories if they still exist:
-C:\Users\*user-name*\AppData\Roaming\ESRI
-C:\Users\*user-name*\AppData\Local\ESRI
-C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS
-C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArcGIS

4) Open the registry editor (From Start type “Regedit”) and delete the following registry keys if they still exist.
-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI
-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI
-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ESRI
