We are suddenly unable to Add data in ArcMap or browse to a directory in ArcCatalog. When we click on Add Data... button in ArcMap there is nothing in the Look in: drop down menu. I tried adding new directory path, but that doesn't do anything. If I keep trying over and over it crashes ArcMap. In ArcCatalog when I try to browse to a directory it crashes ArcCatalog. We are getting the same error message.

We run ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2.1 (version 10.2.1.3497) and ArcFM Desktop 10.2.1c SP1 (build 3445).

The entire organization recently upgraded to MS Office 2016 and since then ArcMap / ArcFM Desktop users have browsing / crashing issues. We also can't add/view .xlsx files to ArcMap / ArcCatalog. It all seems to be related to MS Office 2016 Upgrade.

I currently have an open case with ESRI Canada # 02168552.

Does anyone else have similar issue?

Hi,

I was having issues with arcmap and opening mxd files. This is what I got. The mxd wasnt the problem because I was able to open on another machine.

So I decided to update to 10.2.2. Tried to open the same file and no luck. Then I tried creating a new mxd file, and this time the add data button was grayed out. So I decided to repair the software and do the same operations again and it didnt work.

Then I tried to uninstall 10.2.2 and reinstall it again. This time I got the following error. I havent seen this error before.

Any thoughts about this issue?

Thanks!!!

Robert, Yes I am using concurrent licensing. I was able to re-name just the C:\Users\UsrProfile\AppData\Roaming\ESRI folder and initiate an esri session, however will point out that all user settings, catalog connections, etc. are removed if one does this. Due to this substantial loss of stored settings and connections, I elected to revert to my old user profile (e.g. re-name ESRI_old folder back to ESRI). This destructor error is troubling however. I see some other threads referring to the same destructor error popping up in the Basemap Service Slow to Load and Export thread for example. I hope esri is giving some attention to this....

Jonathan - yes, renaming/deleting the ..\ESRI folder will reset ArcMap back to "factory settings" - as you pointed out, there would be substantial loss. In further researching this issue, there is a bug 000084894 related to exporting Data Driven Pages Map Book to PDF that throws this error. The workaround in this case is to export the entire document page by page - not ideal. Are you exporting a Map Book series to PDF? Pls advise.

Robert,

I have exclusively experienced the destructor issue with maps that have data driven pages engaged. My most recent experience where I got the destructor error was in an mxd that has data driven pages but only trying to export a single page from the mxd, suggesting the workaround of exporting single pages is not 100% successful. The workaround I've been using is to close the mxd (using Windows Task Manager since the destructor error results in a 'hung' arcmap session). Upon re-opening the mxd I usually will not experience the error. thanks for your feedback - hope esri is receiving the messages about this problematic error / bug.

I updated to the latest version too. Problem not solved. Doesn't happen when I export a single page - happens when I export any range of pages from most mxds with data driven pages active. It will crash on export, I'll restart, it will let me export once (however many pages), then crash. I restart, it let's me export one more set of pages, crashes, then I must restart in the loop from hell. Infuriating waste of time. ESRI - are you fixing this?????????????????????????????

So far we have not been able to reproduce this error in-house. As with other errors plaguing the Esri user community, the Esri developers are unable to fix the problem without a repro case. I have noticed that this error also occurs in other programs like Adobe, Hallmark 2011, and several others that I am not familiar with. In one post, there was mention of using 3D symbols in the map document, and that the error was resolved with the 3D symbols were removed. This looks like it may be graphics-related, so upgrading or changing out the video card driver might allow progress with this issue. FYI - the most recent report of this error message is occurring at 10.3.1 of ArcGIS Desktop. Please keep us in the loop and post if you find any step that resolves this issue on your computers. Margaret Maher

Worked for me. Just had to do the regedit fix only. This occurred when I tried to install CorelDraw X8 on my computer.

Hi Scott,

I’ve upgraded to 10.4 and no longer get the error. If memory serves, I was receiving the error when attempting large map exports using data driven pages (i.e. to create a multi-page pdf ‘map book’). I had the following work arounds:

1) I would never attempt to overwrite a pdf, but rather delete the pdf and then re-export

2) I would occasionally have to close the mxd and re-open it if I’d used DD pages to navigate within the mxd, before it would export correctly.

Good luck,

-Jon

Jonathan Frodge / GIS Analyst – Assistant Project Manager

Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc.

5899 Montclair Blvd. · Cincinnati, OH 45150

Toll-Free: (800) 759-5614 · Fax: (513) 985-0228 · Mobile: (513) 646-6582

http://www.cecinc.com<http://www.cecinc.com/>

Senior Leadership · Integrated Services · Personal Business Relationships

I have ESRI 10.4.1 and this is happening to me when simply exporting a large topo map to a pdf. With another similar map it appeared to export, but there is no map.pdf where I exported it to. I get the same error as Ahmed above. I did close and reopen the mxd's to try again. I most often get maps out to troops and those that request them in a very timely manner. This is quite frustrating.

I found something via Esri Support Services that may be the issue:

BUG-000102530 : ArcMap hangs when printing to PDF if features have been labeled with extended Unicode letters

What font are you using?
