Hello!

Once I saw a video about versions in MXD-file, but I can't find any info about this theme.

Could someone where to read about this or name this function?

Seems like there is only an idea page ArcGIS Idea - Ability to save .mxd and .lyr files into a geodatabase at this time, nothing that's built into ArcGIS.

Maybe someone form ESRI could comment on any successful versioning processes they've seen in the wild used successfully?

I've heard good things about Subversion, but haven't used it personally - I think third party tools would be kind of a headache to integrate, but that's just me - I guess it depends on how critical it is for your workflow.

As I understood- it's Production Mapping.

But It's a problem in my organization to buy some extra modules.

So, are there any free tools for such things? Maybe Tortoise or something like this?
