Polygon Grid Wizard

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to make a grid with the polygon grid creation wizard.

I get this error message:

"The Datum of the Primary and Grid coordinate system must be the same. Error changing the Primary coordinate system Datum: invalid linear unit for projected coordinate system"

What is the 'primary' coordinate system being refered to?

All the data I want to check is in state plane projection and NAD 1983 datum.

I see this note in the help pages:

"The datum for the area of interest (grid extent) you want to use and the target dataset must be GCS_WGS_1984."

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

It sounds like you are pointing to a feature dataset that is not in WGS 84 to store your grid. Try saving it at the geodatabase level rather than the feature dataset level. Even though the grid is created in WGS 84, it will still show up properly in your map, which is NAD 83.

The wizard refers to this path as the 'Dataset' and the help pages refer to it as the 'Workspace/Feature Dataset'.

FYI I have tried the following:

1. Pointing to a geodatabase (geodatabase that also contains a REVDATASET NAD 83)

2. Pointing to a geodatabase (geodatabase that also contains a REVDATASET WGS 84)

3. Pointing to a geodatabase (geodatabase that does not contain a REVDATASET)

4. Pointing to a feature dataset with a State Plan Coordinate System NAD 83

5. Pointing to a feature dataset with a WGS 84 Datum

Only the last one works for me.

I should probably declare I am working in ArcGIS 10 and SP1 has not been installed.

Let me look into this a little further. Though you should be able to point to any geodatabase whether it's a Reviewer workspace or not. What type of geodatabase are you trying to store your grid in...Personal, File, or SDE? Also, what license level do you have?

Yes, I have confirmed that this was the limitation at the 10 release. However, it has been addressed in Service Pack 1. Please install Service Pack 1 for ArcGIS Data Reviewer 10 at your earliest convenience.

I have ArcGIS 10 with SP1 and I am still running into the same problem the first poster identified. It appears that I'm forced to have my target dataset in GCS_WGS_1984.

You mentioned ArcGIS Service pack 1, but do you have Data Reviewer Service Pack 1 installed? Also, you may be interested in installing the latest service pack and patch for Data Reviewer, Service Pack 2 and Patch 1.
