Creating a bar chart from a map image layer BUG

I am trying to create a bar chart from a map image layer. It shows the different bars as Null even though the data in the table says "E-160" or "E-606". It has the correct totals but it should not say null. Is anyone else running into this issue?

It works correctly when I get the data from a different table, but I need it from this map image layer because it contains a join that I need. It just seems like a bug to me. I see no reason why it would say "Null" and not what it's supposed to.

Also I'm not sure why this forum won't let me include screen shots?
