Add Layer List Element to Dashboards

Now that we have Exclusive Visibility (radio buttons) for grouped layers, users should be able to easily toggle between layers in a dashboard.

There is a map legend dashboard element, but without a similar layer list element, it takes 3 clicks for users to switch layers:

Turn on the layer list (because it cannot be opened by default)
Expand the layer group
Select a layer

Dashboards are intended to be used by the public, and the steps to choose a layer are not clear to users who don't regularly work with the ArcGIS Online Map Viewer.

This is based on the forum post and idea suggested by @KrystalPhaneuf3. Esri closed the idea in October 2022 and asked that it be resubmitted for consideration.

I've found a workaround solution to make it easy for users to turn layers off and on by simply clicking a button. Perhaps this will help with your inquiry. See screenshots below.

This works since there is never a "0" objectID, which becomes my OFF button. ON is basically everything else non-zero.

I really need the option to either auto-expand the layer list, or optionally have a widget for the layer list in Dashboards.

We are trying to transition our internal employee mapping system to ESRI based products but the layer list on the left-hand panel was very familiar to our users and cant be replicated in Dashboards

Also seeking a way to have the layers opened by default to avoid multiple clicks, or alternatively, allowing the legend to toggle layers on and off.

hi @BrettP

simplest way is to have the layers on in the map that drives the dashboard. if you are using my workaround solution of having distinct on/off buttons for the layers in the dashboard then you just simply have to change the toggle on the Default Selection under Selector.

@StevenDel_Castillo Well the latest ESRI update killed these very tidy on/off buttons. I've been trying to figure out a way to replicate this with the new options but can't figure anything out. Have you had any luck?

hey @valenj88 yeah that wasn't great. Esri should of done a better job of notifying eveyrone of the update (I suspect they are pushing a lot of updates before the UC). THANKFULLY, my colleauge was able to find a solution. The solution is to create a new entry for the ON but leave the Value null.

Then in the Selector settings turn on the Require Selection to On and set the Default Selection to OFF.
