Offline Map Area Error

I am trying to use ArcGIS Online to create a 'map area' for offline use in Collector. After drawing the map area I receive an error message, "The two items must be shared the same way for this Relationship Type". When I create the map area in Collector itself there is no error, but I want to create in ArcGIS Online so I can easily allow others to use. Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. For me the share settings for the map and the hosted feature layer look identical.

I talked to ESRI Support today and they confirmed that this is a bug (BUG-000119242) in the system but it will be fixed with the next version (7.1). The workaround is to turn off all sharing and then go in and make your Map Areas. It worked great for me. Make sure to turn off all sharing include the Sharing that you can do directly from the Content window.

Thanks for perusing this, I got bogged down by AppStudio on another issue. I turned off sharing on the map (left the layers as is) and I was able to generate the map areas. Sharing is back on now. I will test with collector in a day or two.

I tried the prescribed work around and I am still getting the error. The bug report referenced above indicates a modified date for the date of this post, September 28, 2020, when accessed on the same date. Not sure what that means, but clearly there seems to be other issues with this bug.

I am having the same problem creating off-line content within the Field Maps web app beta. I also removed all sharing of my content and still received the error.

Make sure to send in a support ticket for this if it's still not working (and make sure to reference the BUG# I mentioned before). Also, make sure you have the latest version of Collector. There was an update for the Collector on Oct 2nd (2020).

I experienced this issue today in the latest version of ArcGIS Online. Your suggested solution of turning off all the sharing settings for the map and all layers within it worked for me. However, you said that the bug was fixed in version 7.1, and the current version as of today is 8.4. Could this be a new bug with repeat behavior?

I keep running into this issue too. Seems like a possible regression? It's really frustrating. My work around is to make people generate their own offline areas; my maps are too complicated to turn off sharing for every layer a practical thing. 😞

I am experiencing this error as well when trying to create Offline Areas for a webmap that is being used in ArcGIS Explorer. I first get the message "The two items must be shared the same way for this Relationship Type." followed by the error: ERROR 000735: Map Area Item ID: Value is required.

This still occurs despite turning off all Sharing as suggested.

This error occurred for me using the back end field map app in Portal 10.8.1. The feature service, its related table and basemap are all shared with the same settings.

I am still having issues with this Bug. I have tried unsharring everything and creating areas to no success and when I make sure the two layers I have are shared the same and the map is not shared at all I still have issues. Has anyone found a solution that works? Has ESRI just stopped trying to fix bugs?

It's now 2022. Issue still remains. Turned off all sharing. Error message appeared.

So I have run into the same issue today and figured out another "fix" for it.

I am using ArcGIS Enterprise Portal 10.9.1 and ArcGIS Field Maps in a disconnected environment (no internet). I was attempting to make a map area in Field Maps for use on a tablet and encountered the above issues. I set all the sharing permissions for everything (web map, feature layers, and service definitions) to be the same and tried again: no dice.

I ran some smaller tests (I was originally trying to make a large map area) and found that a small test in one area worked while another of equal size did not. The difference between the two? The one that did not work contained features that I had collected previously using Field Maps mobile.

I got rid of the error by deleting all the features I made (they were only test features) and then retrying the large area. It worked.

This is obviously not ideal so... @Esri get on it please and thank you.

As of October 2022, I am still getting this issue. I have not been able to create a new map area for offline downloading after sharing the map, even though I turned off all sharing.
