Snap to Edge in Field Maps

Please implement the ability to snap to a feature edge without requiring a vertex in the Field Maps app. I would recommend this for Collector, but it seems like all development is being moved to this catch-all app. I need the ability to snap a new line or point feature to an existing line feature. I'm sure many utility customers would appreciate this ability.

In all of the ESRI examples for placing a point feature, there is only snapping to end points or vertices. We really really really would like to see edge snapping enabled.

At this moment we put into production an application for collecting events on the pipes and the request from the business side was that they be positioned on the pipe. Unfortunately, the snapping function does not allow positioning on the edge.

Agree with all here. Edge snapping is an essential feature missing from Field Maps. It makes it very difficult to keep utility networks correct / continuous, and this data is absolutely essential for field tech usage and network analysis workflows.

Individual vertex editing of line and polygon features would also be a major improvement to Field Maps.

Agree with all. This is such a basic tool why isn't it already in FieldMaps?

I want my field users to snap to sewer lines, and other underground infrastructure to save me post processing in the office later.

Is Fieldmaps intended to collect real data, or just for making etch-a-sketch notes that have to be re-input in the office? with no snapping to edges it is more the latter. Six years later...

In my experience Field Maps is good for real data collection - you can connect an external GPS antenna and get high accuracy, manage related records pretty neatly, and add a markup layer for later reference. But the line editing features feel a bit clunky - we should at the very least have the option to snap to edge or edit individual vertices, similar to the AGOL edit widget.

@Pukawai @aaron_tob Yes to both. Please implement snapping/some level of vertex editing for field users. Otherwise the data is a mess and just needs to be re-done in the office.

Expensive software that doesn't have basic functionality.

Absolutely wild that this isn't a feature yet! ArcGIS Pro has all types of snapping available - midpoint, intersection, edge, etc.. but on fieldmaps it only works with vertex snapping! I have a train track inspection map where I need inspectors to snap inspection points to the track geometry but can only do so in areas where there are vertices along the line. ESRI, fix this please!

Only advice I can give is to reach out to your local Esri technical support and ask for your organisation to be attached to Enhancement: "ENH-000147487 - Allow Snapping to edges in ArcGIS Field Maps".

There's a few others attached to it and it looks to be under consideration in the development pipeline, but the more use cases attached to this enhancement, the more "consideration" it will get.
