Hi

I am new in City Engine. I was wondering if I can create natural features such as hill or channels and import those model into ArcGlobe or ArcScene.

Hi,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I would like to create a river bank and channel to be visualized in 3d. In the PDF provided shows the purpose of the exercise, The black line needs to be replaced by a river bank and the red line as a channel and the final output has to be seen in ArcScene or ArcGlobe close to photo provided in the PDF.

I'd do this with the 'Dynamic City Layouts' system.

With thin streets ( maybe 2 meters wide ), and sidewalks set to 0 meters.

Sorry for the question I am very new with city engine and I had a look at tutorial 1 and 2 but so I know how to create flat roads however in your picture provided those roads got an angle, how do you do it?

hi,

actually, the whole thing consists of 3 parallel thin streets. the middle street is elevated.

I just selected the middle street segments, used the move tool ( w key ) and the text input field ( '0 5 0', return key ) in the toolbar, to move the streets 5 meters up.

Hi,

Make sure you have enough space between the streets. To actually fill the space in between, you need to close the streets to blocks.

--> just create new thin streets connecting all the ends of those streets.

so, steps :
1] street left
2] street right
3] street middle
4] raise middle street
5] connect left middle right ends with new streets, on both ends
6] > 2 blocks are created between all segments.
7] change block subdivision to 'no subdivision' or an other type
8] 'grow' your structure until you have the full thingy built.

check that you're working with accurate distances and street widths. activate the information display (d,d key) and the navigation display ( d,n ) and check the grid size.

note that in this whole process you are 'misusing' the street system to build the geometries you need.

using the 'c' key enters the 'edit streets tool', this lets you edit the tangents too. also try Graph Menu > Set tangents smooth.
