Locking up when Adding an ESRI Tool to my Silverlight App

Im new at Silverlight and .NET. SO i have server 2008 R2, Visual express, etc. I followed the steps on

. I made the first piece with the esri default map, adding the XMLNS:esri. so far so good, it appears in ie and firefox. I have the references set (i think), then i drag a scale bar from the Toolbox and it appears in my MainPage.xaml. I save and build, then view in a web browser (ie and firefox) and I get the chasing lights circle with 100% hovering but no map appears. So basically when i add an esri tool, it hangs. When i add a common silverlight tool , a calendar, it appears in ie and firefox. What am I missing?

I got it figured out. Just had to reboot the server. Now my references are set.
But now I have a new problem. When I add my own Dynamic service to the simple map application, it comes up blank. When I switch to an esri sponsored service, all is good. Basically i can see the esri service, add a scale bar, it works. When I switch to my service, local host, the screen shows the scale bar for a split second, then the page becomes blank. Almost as if my service is on top and is pure white with no layers displaying. Does this sound like a permissions problem? Am I missing a reference?
