topic Usage() method returns lower counts than usage tab on ArcGIS Online in ArcGIS API for Python Questions

Looking at the usage of a scene layer on ArcGIS online shows a much higher number of requests per day than what's returned with the usage() method. Does the usage() method perhaps return requests by unique users? I don't see anything in the documentation to explain the difference I'm seeing.
