Create a new polyline by select start and end point of an existing polyline?

Hi there,

Is it possible to create a new polyline by allowing the user to select a starting and end point on an existing polyline? where the new polyline would trace along the existing polyline from the user selected start and end points?

The use case is a user can highlight a section of a track (polyline) and flag it as something has been to this portion of the track. The user may subsequently highlight other parts of the track, until the entire track has been covered.
