customize image discovery app

We have downloaded the ESRI Image Discovery app and will be deploying it with our image services. We would like to tweak a few features of this app. I have already reviewed these documents but couldn't find what I was looking for:

Here are some example of the modifications I want to make:

Setting a default layer opacity value on the imagery
Change the Find Address search units from meters to miles
Identify tool- can it be configured to select by point or line as well as poly?
How do we get the time slider to work?

Does anyone have any advice on where to look in the code to make these changes?
