Display polygons/lines as points when zoomed out

Hi Guys,

In ArcIMS, you can set a layer to display as a point when zoomed out. How can I accomplish this in AGIS JSAPI?

I have over 19 Dynamic services each with numerous layers.

I don't want to create 2 layers with different symbols and display levels ie scale restrictions as I have a TOC combined with a legend which controls when a layer is diplayed or not, this would just muddy the waters.

In case anyone is facing the same possible. ESRI have confirmed this is not possible in ArcGIS Server. "So the only thing you can really do is duplicate layers in MXD and show them with different simbology for a predefined scale levels."
