Cached services with different levels - 'level not available' message?

Hi

I have 3 cached map services; two have 8 cached scale levels but one only has 3 (they all use the same scale levels so I can combine them all in one map).

Ideally what I would like to do is if the user chooses the one that only has the 3 levels, if they are zoomed out too far I want a tile to be shown that says 'level not available' or something along those lines.

I have looked at the following knowledge base article:-

I am not sure if this just relates to tiles missing within the cached levels or not - I have added the 'missing.jpg' image to the layers folder for my cached serservice which has the 3 levels but if I zoom out to say level 5 the missing tile image is not showing up.

Anyone have any ideas?

That being said, is your map service with three cache levels configured for three scales or eight scales?

Sorry Derek, thought as it relates to a Javascript API I would post in here.

The map service with 3 scales is configured for just 3 scales (500, 1000, 2000). The other two are configured for the scales: 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, 16000, 32000, 64000, 100000.

No worries. I think you can do this if you change your map service with three levels to have eight levels. You would then specify "missing.jpeg" for your other scales.
