topic ArcGIS without GIS in ArcGIS JavaScript Maps SDK Questions

Hi,

I came accross ArcGIS API, since I need functionality to select a number of coördinates on a map using an extent (in a browser). I saw a very nice demo ("Select graphic points within an extent"), and I would like to reuse that functionality.
BUT... my 'map' is not really GIS based. My "map" is a plain X/Y coördinate system (ranging 0-1000 on X and Y axis). I am actually very unfamiliar with GIS.
Would this be possible at all. What would be the steps I need to take?

Thanks in advance
