Need Advice about Migrating to Flex 4, using previous Sample Viewer vs. new viewer

I am currently using the previous Sample Flex Viewer (the one with Flex 3, ArcGIS Flex API 1.3) and have made many modifications to it to get it the way I want it to look and function. I now need to upgrade to Flex 4 (and very soon to ArcGIS Flex API 2.1 and Server 10). Is there any advantage for me to abandon the map viewer I currently have and adopt the new one, or should I just upgrade what I have (which behaves nicely)? If I move to the new viewer, I will have to make modifications to it to add some functionality that we require. I just need some advice on this from those who have made the switch.

Deona,

My advice would be abandon the changes you made to the viewers framework and just attempt to one by one migrate individual widgets over into the new viewer. The great thing is that you have a good functioning site so just leave that in place until you are happy with your 2.1 work. My plan for my presentation at the 2011 Dev Summit is "How to migrate a 1.x SFV widget to FlexViewer 2.x"

So of the changes that you have made to things like the MapManager.mxml you will be able to pick apart and re-work for the new version but there will definitely not be a simple copy and paste with this migration.

Hello Robert,

Could you please upload your presentation? We are in the same boat, except there are requirements to keep the 1.3 menu as opposed to the menu bar offered by 2.0+. We've read the guide: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/flex/help/index.html#migrating.htm# ; but there are still a lot other issues, it would be great if you could share your experience with us.
