I currently use Adobe Flash Builder and ArcServer to deploy various websites across the County. Although these webmaps are extremely valuable to those with internet connections, they are not utilized by the field crew, due to lack of internet connection (aircards are relatively expensive). Thus, in addition to the webmaps, we have to create desktop versions that mirror the web applications. These desktop applications (as a result of their environment) are bulky, more difficult to use (by those w/o technical experience), and rarely up-to-date. The workflow to update the desktop ArcMap applications is tediuos and time consuming, whereas the webapplications update seemlesly.

I am toying with the idea of installing Adobe Air on the field crew laptops and am hoping to get some feedback from this forum to whether Air might be a solution to a somewhat frustrating problem. It is my understanding that Adobe Air "acts" like a browser, yet sits on a desktop.

Would an application built using Flex and ArcServer technologies run locally using Air on a desktop? Would updates be brought over automatically from our server once a network connection is established (similar to disconnected editing)? Any information or explaination of past/current experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you kindly!
Kristina
