Password protect a layer

I was just wondering is it possible to password protect a single layer?

The password would only affect that one layer and not the other layers within the map

Any help would be appreciated

Terry,

It is possible to protect a individual map service but not a single layer within a map service. Have a look at the help section on server security:

When a user accesses an application that has a service that is secured they will be prompted for a log in, if they don't supply that login then that service will not be shown the the rest of the application will carry on as normal

is it possible to enable security on a service, and have it in a flex application, but only have it prompt for the password when the service is
turned on? Our application is primarily an open app with many users, but we want to put a few secure layers in there for use by a few select people, but we don't want all users to have to deal with the login pop-up.

Daniel,

It may be easier just to have a different config file for those users that have the extra secure layers.

Or you could try the map services widget that allows users to add more services at runtime:
