Does the Edit Widget work with a file geodatabase? Does it have to be in SDE?

"The features must come from an ArcSDE geodatabase. This geodatabase can be licensed for either workgroup or enterprise use and does not have to be versioned."

One more question Bjorn. Please excuse my ignorance, as all this is new to me and I am trying to sort out what needs to happen in my organization.

How do I handle permissions to the SDE db? We have our SDE set up with db authentication. Do I need to create a login page for the user. Only one user is going to edit the data set. Is this edit widget from the 2.0 sample map viewer only set up for anonymous users/editors?
