topic LAS Point Statistics as Raster - all points vs filtered set of points in 3D Questions

I have run the LAS Point Stats as Raster tool on a LAS dataset. Then I also ran it on a LAS dataset Layer filtered for only 1st return points that are also classes 3,4,5 (low, medium and high veg). When I look at the resulting rasters (both with same cell size), they are exactly the same, with mean and SD exactly the same out to as many decimals as Arc displays. A random clicking with the Identify tool shows them to be exactly the same pixel by pixel as well. This should not be - the layer file filtering out only 1st return veg classified points should have about half the number of data points as the full LAS Dataset, and thus a much lower count per pixel. It appears the tool is ignoring the filters in the layer and processing all points. The filtered layer itself is correct, and displays only the first return veg points. Anyone noticed this problem? Or perhaps had it work correctly on a filtered LAS data layer?
