topic display 3d soil sample data? in 3D Questions

I have:
1. arcview with 3d extension
2. aerial and DEM of area
3. point shapefile with XY, elevations, depths, concentrations. For each depth i'm keeping Z=elevation. But i think it should be z=elevation - depth to show distinct points for each sample.

What i need is similar to the tutorial exercise 2 i believe. We took soil samples at different depths at the same location throughout the area. I want to be able to display the concentration values at the different depths. For instance some locations have high levels near surface (-1ft) and some have high levels further (-6ft).

In the example they show 3d mountain like views for elevation and then draped the concentration plume on top. I cant figure out how to do this. The furthest i got is creating peaks for the concentrations using the feature to 3d and IDW tools (exercise 4 i believe) and then extruding the point file to show bars as depths.

Is it possible to create the same thing as tutorial because i'm out of ideas?

Hi there,

If you want to drape your concetration data over the tin (elevation bits), simply go into the properties and select the base heights tab and click floating on a custom surface, in the elevation from surfaces section, then you can select your tin.

With regard to concentrations, wasnt too sure if your data was from a single point or if you dug a number of sample locations? If it is multiple, you could generate surfaces for different depths, so you would have a excel sheet for 1ft and add all you data across the field. You can then import these and perform kriging from the geostatistical analysis and it will generate a surface showing your changes in concentration across you sample area. I can explain this in more detail if it would be useful?

Cheers
