You can import colladae files and other models into ArcScene for display. You can also export the complex models as textured multipatches in a geodatabase. City Engine is a mass modeling software and the models created there and exported as a geodatabase or model can be utilized in ArcScene/ArcGlobe. There are examples using 3d Analyst/ArcScene. Also there are other examples of the use of both technologies like this one.

Hi All,

I dont have 3D analyst but I do have cityengine, and im wondering about the interoptability between features stored as a shape file or a geodatabase. I know the symbolized data is very much stored in the mxd but if i were to symbolize say points as trees or street furniture, could those "objects" be brought into cityengine?

What kind of of building symbology does 3d analyst have? Besides extruding building foot prints, is there detail in building shape, facades and texturing?

thanks in advance,
Devon

The link appears to be broken to access the tutorial on how to import exported collada files from cityengine into a geodatabase. Could you give me a quick description of the process?

best,
Devon

It is a link to the blogs and if you have an account you will need to sign in and then access the link again. Otherwise it will return you to the basic blog page. To import the collada files, you will just need to import them normally with the Import 3d tool. Otherwise you can create an empty multipatch feature class in a geodatabase and then place them via the insert tool.
