Hi Elaine! How are you going about changing the rendering? Have you ensured that the new renderer is checked on in the symbology dialog? Are you able to use any of the other renderers?

Here is a good blog that discusses "Changing up the way a TIN is rendered".

Thanks for responding, yes I do have the renderer checked and it disappears for slope, aspect and elevation. The funny thing is I did a project a month ago and everything worked fine - doing it exactly the same way.

It is possible that the issue is specific to the complexity of the TIN. Is this TIN more complex than the other project that worked?

As a workaround, you can convert the TIN to raster and then run the Slope or Aspect tools.

Yes the tin is a bit more complex, which I could understand but the tin works fine on a much lesser computer. After the tin disappears I save my project and open it again and the tin is fine and shows the aspect properly. I wonder if it is more a computer problem them ArcScene.

If it is system related, then I would check the graphics card. Some graphics cards do not display as expected. You can also check to see that you have the most up to date graphic card driver installed.
