Dear all,

Apologies for this rather naive question, I have just begun looking into 3D and ArcScene and have a fairly simple question for you all.

I am planning to write an algorithm for positioning solar panels on a roof which uses 3D coordinate geometry. Now, my 3D city data is in multipatch format, is there a way in Arc to export/extract the XYZ coordinates? If not, I was planning to use Oracle Spatial to calculate the geometry before carrying out the calculations.

Best Regards,

Kelvin.

You can harvest the Building footprints with the Multipatch Footprint tool. This tool also records the Z Min/Max so you should have an idea about the rooftop, provided the top is not too irregular. Otherwise you could try burning the buildings into a Raster DEM with this from the resource center.
