The simplest workaround (without moving or modifying the original data) is to create a layer in ArcMap, chose any type of symbology except representation, save it as a layer file, add to ArcScene and … it’s working! (Thanks to János Hárs) However, this is a bug and should be corrected.

Ákos Halmai

The ArcScene always crashes if try to add a feature class with representation. I think it is an old, and probably well-known bug. I wouldn’t use the representation itself in ArcScene, a simple feature renderer would be perfect too.

Is there any workaround to use a feature class with representation in ArcScene? (Without removing the representation, or moving the data to different workspace.)

Ákos Halmai

You have identified the two simplest workarounds. Is there a reason why you don't want to do this even on a copy of the data?
