Why Do My Lidar Points Disappear When I Zoom In Close? (ArcGIS Pro / Scene Viewer)

Hey 3D mapping folks,

I’m Mark Pousee, and I’m currently working in ArcGIS Pro, trying to visualize some lidar point cloud data in a detailed scene. Everything loads fine, but I’ve noticed something really odd: as I start zooming in—especially to inspect building facades or fine ground details—more and more points vanish, leaving random blank patches in the view. It gets worse if I orbit or pan a bit. It’s super disorienting when I want to zoom in for detail work.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

Switched between Scene Viewer and ArcGIS Pro 3D View—same behavior.
Checked and increased the point size/density in the layer settings—only minor gains.
Experimented with toggling LOD (level of detail) settings—it seemed to help slightly, but the underlying issue persists.
Tested with a smaller subset of the point cloud—has same issue at close zoom.

Has anyone else seen lidar data “disappearing” when zooming in, maybe due to performance optimization or tiling logic? If you've resolved this before, did you adjust rendering settings, change tile generation parameters, or preprocess the data differently?

Would love to hear your experiences or any practical suggestions for keeping more points visible when working up close.

what's the resolution of the source lidar data?

Are the points always in the foreground?

View tab -> "view clipping" ->change mode from automatic to manual and set the distance to 0.05m.

I assume that's what you need, but if that doesnt fix the issue:

Did you rebuild pyramids in ArcPro?

Did you regenerate LOD in ArcPro?
