what is the term you use?
So the technical standard is Reference Post... but this one is a little like a cola beverage, it can be Coke, Pepsi, Soda, Pop, etc.
Yep. Problem with using Mile Post or Mile Markers is that it infers that the posts are 1 mile apart. This is not the case for most posts. We still struggle with this in Iowa. Plus people get confused with Mile Point and Mile Post. We had an RFP that wanted Reference Posts but they put in Mile Point for the requirement, thinking Mile Point and Mile Post (Reference Post) were the same. When accidents would come in to be mapped in real time, patrol or DOT would report a Mile Post (Reference Post) and not mile point. so the locations were off, sometimes by miles. We had to develop a converter from our LRS.
Also Reference Posts are not numbers but characters. Reference Posts and have Letters like 125A or 130AH.
