I hear you, It is the same here.. V3 and V4 they both give the same problem. Im running ArcPad 10 on a new trimble GeoXT and I think it should not be giving these problems on a new hardware and new software. Well, I guess that backs up what I have been seeing. I did take the advice above and turned off all extensions except those for images. Still very very slow. I have not run it enough since then to see if it still freezes often but I am not hopeful.

Thanks for that reply and I will look into the windows mobile issues. I do realize it could be an issue on my side with hardware yet it is very frustrating to see performance go backwards. I am not certain which previous version of AP 10 it was. I downloaded and started to use it about 3 months ago. I moved to r4 about 2 weeks ago.

I am a long time ArcPad user, from back in 2003 with version 6 or thereabout. I have used all versions of 6 and 7 and now 2 versions of 10. It has been a great and reliable tool all along, generally always performing well. My current use is on an iPAQ 210 running windows mobile 6. I just "upgraded" to the new version, R4. It is bad and it is unacceptable. It is incredibly slow to the point where I am not sure it is not hung up and on simple tasks that were very quick before. It has also been very unstable, freezing the machine at least 4 times in about 4 hours of use. This is the first version I would have ever considered to be a problem, and it is really a problem. Unless I hear that there is some fix, I plan to ask for a refund and return to version 7.

In my prior version of ArcPad, v 7, I had to download and install a fix to be able to view images in full sharp resolution. Is the same necessary in 10? I notice that 10 is not displaying my sid image quite as sharp as ArcMap does.

Thanks Gareth. I had thought of cutting and pasting text so will do that if necessary. It seems unnecessarily convoluted however. There ought to be options on export to export only symbology, symbology plus edit form etc. There ought to be at least a warning that it is going to over-write an existing edit from/APL.

I exported symbology for 2 shapefiles in ArcGIS 10 to work in ArcPad 10. Much to my dismay, it over wrote my custom forms. Is there any way to get it to just export symbology and leave forms alone?

Hello Everyone - Esri is looking at the evolution of handheld devices and is committed to supporting the operating systems used in the mainstream devices. This is something we at Esri are working on and we will share more information over time. Please do: I am dying to switch from my tiny screen PDA to one of the new tablets.

I am a long time user, having always used ArcPad on a PDA. Tablets have been too heavy and too expensive. The new smaller lighter yet much bigger screen iPad type devices are very intriguing as a field device. Will ArcPad work on any of them???????

I suppose? I just right clicked and added ArcPad Data Manager to my ArcMap tool bars and its greyed out. I can't select any of its features. As far as being turned on I'm not sure. Suggestions? I had the same problem. You have to turn on the extension; I cannot remember which menu did it but you will find it. Unfortunately, you may find like a lot of us that the Data Manager does not work and crashes ArcMap but good luck.

So far nothing from ESRI which is surprising since they usually have a good response. Sometimes I think ArcPad is their red headed stepchild. I do manually transfer files but find it frustrating that I have to do so. Transferring files is not a huge problem. Not being able to export symbology is! I have a geologic map with about 250 units in it! Come on ESRI, fix it.

I too am having this issue: just about any operation with the Data Manager kills ArcMap. Even just trying to export symbology. This is a very serious issue for ArcPad users and I hope that ESRI can get it fixed very soon.

Hi, Have you enabled the ArcPad Data Manager extension in ArcMap? http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcpad/10.0/help/index.html#/Enabling_the_ArcPad_Data_Manager/00s100000065000000/ Thanks, that did it. Seems a bit odd that the toolbar shows up without the extension being enabled. Oh, well, the mysteries of ESRI.

I installed a non-registered demo of ArcPad 10. The Data Manager toolbar is now available in ArcMap but it is not active, all the tools are grayed out and do not respond. Do I have to purchase a license to get the data manager functionality?

MrSID is no longer being supported in ArcGIS 10 as an export format. So, unfortunately, that meant it had to be pulled from ArcPad's Data Manager too. Yes, I noticed that MrSID is no longer available. ESRI should post, when announcing a new version, what is NO LONGER availble in new versions along with the new good stuff. MrSID was very very useful and very valuable to me. Fortunately I have version 9.3 running on the old laptop.
