Hi. We are considering using explorer as an enterprise tool for capturing redlines. Generally, this means correcting mistakes in our enterprise gis data like an asset in the wrong location, or a missing asset, or similar. The markup tools in explorer are simple and user friendly so seems like good fit. So, field staff would capture markup, and share it as kml to AGOL. Our office staff would then want to access those KML items in Arcmap, where they could use it as reference for making updates to the enterprise data. I'm not seeing an easy way for them to do this. It's easy to add the markup to a webmap, but no simple way I know of to add it to arcmap. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. #I'm also interested if there is a better way using Arcgis Pro, although our org has not upgraded to pro yet. Along these lines, I believe I stumbled across a script that would do something like this at one time but can't find it now. Maybe something developed with arcgis api for python. I think the script would periodically crawl thru a group in AGOL, get all the KML items and add them to a hosted feature service. Something along those lines. Thanks

Michael, can you clarify? I understand I can pass lat, long coordinates to survey123 using the center parameter, but does this actually create a geopoint with those coords or does it simply center the map at that point? Thanks.

Hi. I'd like to simplify the sign-in experience for end users. We have integrated with ADFS, so users can sign in using their regular work domain accounts, but there are some issues and its often confusing for new users or infrequent users. There is some variability depending if they are on a browser vs signing in to Collector, etc... but the following screenshots show what a new user might see. 1. For our apps, they need to use their enterprise account, so we need to train them to ignore the prominent sign in interface and instead, click the button below. 2. The user needs to know the domain part of our url.... 3. The user needs to know that they should use their Bellevue account 4. Finally, they get to the point of actually signing in. 5. To complicate matters, the map or feature service may be secured (we use LDAP or windows security). If so, the user will be prompted to authenticate against the service, which looks something like below. The password is the same as what they input for AGOL signin, but the username in this case is just the username, rather than the full email. Now, that's a lot to ask of a casual user. They don't really understand why they need to sign in twice, and why the username is different for the different sign-in dialogs. So, looking for ways to simplify this. One option is to configure the organization sign in options to only show the enterprise login. This would be a good improvement, but there is one issue. Several times, we have had ADFS down temporarily, and when that happens, we can't use our enterprise accounts to sign into AGOL and administer the organization. Also, our ADFS certification expires once a year, and if we fail to update our organization before it expires, we are again unable to use our org account. So, as a backup, we have one AGOL account with admin privileges, that we can use when ADFS is not working. Due to this issue, we are hesitant to change the sign in options, because we would have no way to access and administer our account in situation mentioned above. To summarize 1) Sign in experience for users is burdensome. ESRI should look into ways to simplify this. Perhaps allowing AGOL authentication to pass through to map service authentication. Also, allow administrators to customize the sign in interface. 2) If we change the sign in options so that users can only use their Bellevue accounts, how could we handle cases where those accounts are not working due to issues with ADFS? Is there another backdoor way to get into our accounts? 3) Are others dealing with this issue? If so, what strategies have you adopted? Thanks

I just encountered this and found a solution that works for me at least. Initially, I tried applying def queries to my layers in arcmap. The query is not applied to newly created records in Collector, when offline. Likewise, if you apply a filter to the layer in the arcgis.com viewer, as Matthew describes above, new records are not filtered in offline maps. My solution is to use the "change style" capability in arcgis.com viewer to display symbols by unique values. Then I can make the desired category invisible so that when a feature is changed to that category it drops off the map. So, in my case, a user can change the "active" field from yes to no. When they do this, the feature disappears from the map. This works offline. You might ask, why not apply this symbology in arcmap and publish the service with unique value rendering? That does work, but it's kind of messy because your feature template in collector would have options for both the Yes and No symbols, which is a bit confusing for end users, especially since I already have 6 types of ramps they can choose. And there is no use case for adding an inactive feature in the field. FYI - this also improves the user experience for online edits because the change is immediate. With filters, I found that it was often quite slow and required you to jog the map by changing scale or similar, before the map would update. That said, I would consider this a work-around, and it would be nice if ESRI would ensure that filters and def queries will work in offline mode for future releases. And also, great if performance of def queries\filters can be improved. Thanks

Hi, I have created a custom version of the ESRI tabbed series story map which can be seen here - http://residentsurveymaps.bellevuewa.gov/. If you click on the map, a custom info window pops up that displays several charts which the user can scroll thru. All good, but I just noticed a bug, which is that on tablets, in landscape view, that info window is not scrollable. Now, the info window uses a dojo content pane and in researching the issue I found that it was likely a css issue and the fix is to specify overflow: auto along with a height value, either as a css style or as a property of the dojo dijit using data-dojo-props. Well, I have tried every flavor of this with no success. Its a bit complicated because the model for extending the template is what esri calls 'loose integration', meaning the developer does not need to understand the internal workings of the app, and indeed much of the app is minified so there is no way to make sense of it. I have been able to create a simple working example, but it fails in my app. My feeling is that there is some conflicting css or something else going on under the hood that is causing the bug, but I cant pinpoint it. The app uses 3.14 version of jsapi. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks Chris. Just getting back to this after other priorities came up. I do see that it works fine in the fiddle. I also tried it on a computer outside of my work domain and it works there. I guess that points to some kind of security issue in our environment here that is causing the issue. I will continue investigating.

Hi, I would like to embed my organization home page into a website. I assumed this would be a simple matter of using an html snippet. Something like this: <iframe width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://cobgis.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html"></iframe> But when I attempt to view that page in a browser, it immediately redirects to my AGOL home page. Not embedded. Perhaps there is some javascript in the page that is causing this? Anyhow, if anyone knows why this is happening and if there is a work-around, I'd love to hear it. Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to extend the map series template - Story Map Series | Story Maps . I would like to create a custom infowindow, rather than use the default popups from my arcgis.com webmap. I'm doing this to provide a better look and primarily to provide improved charts using dojo. I have downloaded the source code from github and deployed it to my web server. It sounds like the recommended approach to extending the app is to edit the custom javascript and css sections in the index.html file. In the custom javascript section, I'm subscribing to the "story-loaded-map" event as each tab will have its own infowindow, and this is where I'm struggling. I have tried a few approaches, but no luck. Here is what my code looks like now: //create infowindow var infoWindow = new InfoWindow(null, domConstruct.create("div")); infoWindow.startup(); //set infowindow for map to use app.map.infoWindow = infoWindow; app.map.infoWindow.resize(275, 275); //create basic template for testing. Will add charts and content once its working. var template = new esri.InfoTemplate(); template.setTitle("Test"); template.setContent(getWindowContent); //add feature layer to map with infoTemplate.... var layer = new FeatureLayer("my feature layer url", { mode: FeatureLayer.MODE_ONDEMAND, infoTemplate: template, outFields: ["*"] }); var symbol = new SimpleFillSymbol(); layer.setRenderer(new SimpleRenderer(symbol)); app.map.addLayer(layer); So, the default popup no longer displays, which is good, but the new infowindow does not. In the console, I'm seeing the following Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'toScreen' of undefined Can someone point me in the right direction? FYI, I'm using the following sample as a guide to creating the infoWindow - Info window with chart | ArcGIS API for JavaScript Thanks.

Stephen, I tried using the side accordion app with a time enabled web map and it does not add the time slider, nor did I see any option to configure it. Could you explain how this works? FYI, for benefit of others: It looks like the Text and Legend app has been retired, so that is not an option. There are a couple of options, but none are story maps: There is a Time Aware template, but I don't like that option because it is not mobile friendly. The other option is the web appbuilder, which has a time-slider widget, and is mobile friendly. That said, I'm still curious about the side accordian template. Thanks
