Hey Margot, Clinton, and everyone else! Thanks for putting this together! Brief intro -- I'm Victoria, and I work for Redwood City in the Bay Area where I work on a variety of GIS projects. Those projects aren't social justice oriented, but they do use Esri's ArcGIS Online (/Enterprise), so I'll go ahead and link to the majority of those incase anyone is seeking web mapping inspiration or input -- I'm always down to talk about design, or data management, or technical stuff. Outside of work I'm able to focus more on social justice oriented cartography. Not sure how successful I've been thus far, but always looking for new projects and collaborations and whatnot. My portfolio is here if anyone's interested. Anyway, excited about this space, and hoping to hear more about what others are doing and gain inspiration from you all. Definitely could use it during these COVID times. Best, Victoria

Hello, I'm trying to bring an XML wfs into geoevent server using "poll external website for xml", I'm generally following the steps of this blog, but I think I'm hung up on adding credentials into the URL. I've created an input with the URL: http://geo.daveyresourcekeeper.com:8080/geoserver/wfs_redwoodcity/wfs?service=wfs&version=1.1.1&request=getFeature&typename=wfs_redwoodcity which works when accessed in a browser and the username/pw are entered. And according to this blog I've tried to add the username/pw to the url as well as to the parameters space, but in all instances I'm getting "Request failed (HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized)." Along with 'Unable to parse input '' into spatial reference." Which I assume is because the data is inaccessible without credentials. I'm wondering if you could advise on how to add the credentials to this URL or the parameters. I've tried http://geo.daveyresourcekeeper.com:8080/geoserver/wfs_redwoodcity/wfs?service=wfs&version=1.1.1&username=abc&password=123&request=getFeature&typename=wfs_redwoodcity And I've tried adding to the parameters "username=abc&password=123" but neither seemed to work. Thank you, Victoria

Hey everyone, Just wanted to add to this conversation. I was receiving this error when trying to geocode a csv to a feature class: And I went through a variety of steps to try to resolve: - checked field names - checked for weird characters in the addresses But then I tried exporting as a shapefile instead of a feature class and it worked great. Hope this helps!

Hey, I have a sketchup model that I'm trying to import into pro, and it is only one building, so I hope I won't have the issues you had with needing to explode it and such. But I'm having trouble with the import. I downloaded and installed the data interoperability extension, and am trying the quick import, but I can't get it to allow me to use a .skp. Did you add the data format somehow? Thanks, Victoria

I'm having a somewhat similar issue, but it's more a discrepancy between my web app that I've downloaded and transferred to my web server, and my original web scene. My multipatch layer in the webscene has working pop-ups, but when I open it in the web app on my web server they are empty. I republished with the ID field turned on, assuming it's absence was the issue, but that didn't solve it. Also, I had previously published this same data through the same process and had the pop-ups work in the same web application. So I'm not sure what happened in my most recent publication of it, but do you have any ideas?? The web app is here: ArcGIS Web Application The web scene is here: Scene Viewer Thank you! Victoria

I'm working on a storymap to share with the public and started off by creating a journal storymap hosted on Arcgis online. I configured the application so that all layers, webmaps, and premium services were public, and so far we have successfully shared the storymap with the public with no sharing issues. I realized it would be better to have both a mobile and desktop version, so I followed the steps in this blog by Cooper Thomas. I created a mobile version of the storymap, I then hosted the compiled version of the application (1.13.1) on my webserver and added the necessary code to make it responsive and point to my two storymaps. All went well. Upon testing this I found that two sections of my storymap are randomly prompting sign-in (see images). I would assume this had to do with a layer or premium service that hasn't been shared, BUT it seems like that is not the case because the random prompting only happen in the storymaps that are shared on my webserver. When I access them via arcgis online (signed out and in incognito window) the prompt does not appear. Any ideas about whats happening? My IT department couldn't find any initial indicators. It doesn't happen for every section, and it only sometimes happens to the two I've seen it in. It also occurs when I access the webserver link on my phone, but not every time I move to one of those two sections. Also when I select cancel on the sign-in window I am able to proceed. I am wondering if this is the same issue described in this conversation. Also I saw that in the 1.12.1 release of the journal app there was a fix: "Addressed an issue with cookies that eliminates several unexpected login prompts and redirect loops". Could that be the same issue I'm experiencing? Here's the storymap on my webserver Here's the mobile version on arcgis online, and the desktop version in arcgis online And the error is shown below (also attached). Thank you, Victoria

I see, thank you for explaining that, I haven't done this in a while and forgot that it simply references the storymap's ID, phew. Re: Cooper's blog I want to generate a mobile friendly version because the one that I've created has a lot of "main stage content" buttons ("button" from here on) to layers in the map and the sections are each pretty long. This makes it so that on a mobile device jumping back and forth between the map content and the text becomes tiring. Also if you were to click a button lower down in the text, when you return to the text after viewing the map content you don't return to the same location in the text, but instead at the top, so then you have to scroll to get back to where you were. This is challenging to explain, but here's the link to my storymap, if you go to one of the longer sections and try to use all of the buttons you should be able to see what I'm talking about. Additionally, in the mobile version the buttons don't work for the section "Downtown Transit Center" and for the last three buttons in the "Dumbarton Corridor Study" section--no idea why, they work in the desktop version. For a mobile version I would take out the majority of the buttons and group the data that shows up for each button. I'd also probably reduce the text on some of the sections because it's lengthy. Finally, I've included a lot of "please scroll down in this panel" text after watching many people be confused on how to use the tool. This text becomes kind of confusing on the mobile device where you swipe from section to section. So I'd like to only have it in the desktop version. Thank you for reading this short novel of feedback. And thank you again for the quick response.

Hi Rupert, thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I know that I can download the source code for a new unedited map journal, but I am looking to download the code for the one that I've spent the last 4 months working on and am trying to avoid recreating. Is this possible? Additionally, I read your colleagues article on dynamically loading different story maps based on the device and would like to be able to do this for the map journal (his example is cascade). His directions have you download the source code once you've finished your edits. So could I follow these steps for the journal as well as the cascade? Thank you, Victoria

I've created a map journal application that is hosted on esri's server (not my own) which I've configured through the map journal builder. I'm realizing now that a splash page would be incredibly helpful, but do not want to start over in order to download the journal, edit, and host on my server. Can I add such a thing through either the json in ArcGIS Online Assistant or by attaching the right code in the journal's settings under "code attachment"? Alternatively, is there a way to download my application's source code for the journal storymap after I've finished editing in the builder? I see this is possible for the cascade, but can't find the option for the journal. Thank you!
