Hello! The problem was that the unsigned security certificate on the second VM was generated for the fully qualified server name rather than the server alias. The Flexviewer application was built using the alias. If the links to the map services and the web server base folder URL are changed to include the fully qualified server name- then the error goes away. Many thanks to ESRI support for their assistance in solving this issue. Virginia

A final update- the SQL server login that matches the credentials for the ArcGIS for Server account needs to be data_reader on the SQL server database- sysadmin and db_owner are not necessary permissions. Virginia

Hello! A quick update on this issue- based on a recent conversation with ESRI support- the error seems to be the result of a problem with the security certificate on the second VM. I will post another update once the issue has been finally resolved. Virginia

Hello! I am now able to do queries of related tables that are pulled from a remote SQL server database- which is on a different network- via the "query related records" function in the rest services directory. I need to do more testing to pinpoint all the necessary elements but at this point these were the changes I made: 1) Set up a local (rather than domain) account for SQL server that matches the credentials for the ArcGIS for Server account and that is a sysadmin and has db_owner permissions for the database. This account uses windows rather than SQL server authentication when accessing the database. 2) Used operating system authentication when connecting to the remote SQL server database via ArcCatalog 3) Removed a definition expression that had been placed on the related table in the mxd file prior to publishing the map service. This last step is definitely necessary- again I'd have to do more testing to see which of the first two steps was needed in order for queries of the related tables in the map service to work. Hello! I have run across a problem using the Edit Widget in ArcGIS Viewer for Flex 3.0. I am using the Edit Widget to add rectangular extents to one feature service. Most of the extents that I am entering overlap to some extent- so when I click on one previously added extent to view or edit its attributes- the Edit Widget will often pick up many extents and give me the option to scroll through and change attributes for each extent. The problem I'm having is that when the Edit Widget picks up more than say 10 overlapping features at once, and I try to view the attributes for the different features- the browser goes from displaying the web mapping application to displaying a big "!" and nothing else. My understanding is that this is a sign that there is a memory overload. Is there something I can do do address this issue within the widget or web mapping application? I was thinking if I could obtain a version of the Edit Widget that limits the features you can edit to the current web map viewing session- instead of just the current user- that this would cut down on the number of records for which the widget would allow you to view/edit attributes. I tried using Ben Kane's Enhanced Edit Widget from the code gallery (http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=c12dfc1fbc5c49bfa21c48c809a1eaca) but that did not seem to work properly. I do not have Adobe Flash Builder and am not a developer- so it would be difficult for me to make these changes to the widget code myself. Any recommendations are very much appreciated. Thank you. Virginia

Hi Ben: Thank you for making this change to the widget- this is exactly the functionality that I'd like to incorporate into my web map. I was wondering whether you had a version of your edits that should work with the application builder for ArcGIS Viewer for Flex 3.0? I tried making a copy of the compiled folder from your download, renaming as EnhancedEditWidget, and zipping the renamed folder up since the application builder only recognizes zip folders. When I replaced the regular edit widget with the zip of the renamed folder in the application builder- the edit widget wouldn't let me edit the attributes of any features- regardless of when they were created or what user had created them. Any thoughts are much appreciated-if at all possible, I'd really like to be able to incorporate your widget into my web map via the application builder. Thank you. Virginia

One further update. I was able to get the query of related non-spatial tables stored in a SQL server instance on the same network as ArcGIS for Server to work by doing the following: 1) Using operating system authentication in the .sde connection from ArcCatalog to the SQL server database. 2) Setting the ArcGIS for Server account (a domain account for my set up which has a windows authenticated login in SQL server) to have a db_owner role for the database I was trying to access. My understanding is that it would be difficult to make the ArcGIS for Server account a user on the remote server/for the remote instance of SQL server since it is a domain account. So the options at this point appear to be to make ArcGIS for Server be a local account OR to set up a replicate of the remote SQL server database on the SQL instance that is on the same network as ArcGIS for Server. Any thoughts on which of these options might be better or any suggestions for other options that I've missed are much appreciated. Thank you! Virginia

Thank you for the recommendation Lun Lee. I've been working with ESRI support, and others, on resolving this issue, and at this point it looks like the root of the problem *may* be related to how ArcGIS for Server is accessing the SQL Server instance- specifically the use of windows authentication vs. SQL server authentication. I assumed this mode of authentication was determined by the settings in the .sde connection file to the database that is set up from ArcCatalog...However- if there is another place to change this mode from windows/OS to SQL server/database authentication- including via ArcGIS for Server Manager, then I would very much appreciate any information that anyone on the forum can provide. I have no problems doing a query of records in the related non-spatial table from the rest services directory *if* I don't register the non-spatial SQL Server database with ArcGIS for Server OR if I access tables in a SQL server instance on the same machine as ArcGIS for Server 10. Hosting SQL server on the same machine as ArcGIS for Server 10.1 isn't really possible given my current set up- so I need to make the connection to a remote instance of SQL server- ideally one that is stored on a different network than ArcGIS for Server- work. Given these observations though, it seems possible that the issue is related to firewall/network settings/permissions...when the non-spatial data is copied to ArcGIS for Server, there doesn't seem to be a problem. Any further advice on this issue is much appreciated. Thank you! Virginia

Hello! I have a map service that references a non-spatial table (more specifically a view) stored in a SQL Server database. This table is related to a spatial layer (i.e., feature class) in the map service. I have registered both the non-spatial SQL Server database and the file geodatabase containing the feature class with ArcGIS for Server. After publishing the map service, I made changes to the tables referenced by the view in SQL Server. These changes show up when I look at the table in the source mxd for the map service. However, these changes do not show up when I do a search of the spatial layer and try to view information in the related table in the web mapping application (ArcGIS Viewer for Flex) that I'm using to view the map service. Do I need to overwrite the map service in order to get these changes to show up? I registered my data sources with ArcGIS for Server in an attempt to preclude the need for overwriting the map service every time the SQL Server database is updated. If I shouldn't need to do an overwrite of the map service, then do you have any suggestions for things I should look at/try out in order to identify the source of the problem? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide. Virginia

Hello! I'm working on a web map in ArcGIS Viewer for Flex 3.0 that has map services published using ArcGIS for Server 10.0 (I don't have any service packs installed). The problem I'm running into is that I get the following error when I try to access the web map in IE (I do NOT get this error if I use Firefox): X layer failed to load: Fault code: Channel.Security.Error Fault info: Security error accessing url Fault details: Destination: DefaultHTTPS Here are some details on the set up I'm using. Originally my whole set up- ArcGIS for Server, all the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex files, all the data referenced in the services- was all on one virtual machine (VM)- and I got no error messages when I tried to access the web map. Recently- I installed ArcGIS Viewer for Flex and Adobe AIR on a second VM (which has the alias that I want for the final webmap URL), and copied the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex folder for my web map to the C:/inetpub/wwwroot/flexviewers folder on this second VM. SSL is implemented on IIS (version 7) on both VM's. I have a crossdomain.xml file in C:/inetpub/wwwroot on both VM's. The crossdomain.xml file contains the following text: <?xml version="1.0"?> -<cross-domain-policy> <allow-access-from domain="*"/> <site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="all"/> <allow-http-request-headers-from domain="*" headers="*"/> </cross-domain-policy> When I try to access the web map using the machine name for the second VM in the URL (https://<name for second VM>/flexviewers/<web map name>)- I can access it fine in Firefox; but get the Channel Security Error listed above in IE. I can access the web map just fine regardless of the browser I use if I use the machine name for the original VM in the url (https://<name for original VM>/flexviewers/<web map name>). Any recommendations for ways of addressing this issue are very much appreciated and I'm happy to provide further details as needed. Thank you! Virginia

Thank you Anthony. I tried using Robert's "Identify" widget for Flex 3.0 and it successfully pulls the information on habitat type out of the raster attribute table-and the time it takes for the pop-up window to open is reasonable- so that is great. My only problem now is that the symbology for the raster doesn't show up in the Table of Contents widget that I'm using in place of the legend widget. I'll have to look in to whether that widget is capable of displaying the symbolog of a raster layer in a map service. Thanks again Anthony- I really appreciate the feedback. Virginia

Hi Anthony: Thank you for the clarifications. My rasters already have attribute tables - my problem is: if I publish the mxd containing the rasters to a map service and then select the raster layers within the Viewer for Flex Application Builder and try to do pop-up configuration on them- I am not given the option to select fields from the attribute tables to display in the pop-up windows. I don't know if you can configure pop-ups using raster attributes if the rasters are published using Image Server- I haven't gotten Image Server set up. This is why I converted to polygons - I was able to select fields from the attribute tables for the polygon layers for display in the pop-ups. But conversion to polygons makes the services display slowly- thus requiring tiling- and, even when the services are tiled, there is the big time delay on pop-up window display that I mentioned in my original post. So my options seem to be to 1) somehow improve the speed with which the polygons display OR 2) figure out what has to be done for the fields of the attribute tables of the individual rasters to show up as selectable for display in the pop-up windows. Any further comments or recommendations would be much appreciated. Virginia

Hi Anthony: After experimenting with the raster catalog a bit- it looks like you can configure a pop-up that applies to the whole raster and contains attributes that are relevant for the whole raster. I did not see a way of setting up symbology separately for the different raster layers. I'm looking to have pop-ups that identify information about the individual pixels within the rasters- not for the whole raster. And I have a different symbology set up for each raster. More specifically - I have 4 rasters, each of which shows different habitat types(terrestrial, aquatic, riparian, etc) and I want the user to be able to identify the habitat type in a given pixel using a pop-up window. I also want to have the colors for the different habitat types show up in the map legend. So unless there is a way of tying the attribute field that can be added to the raster catalog table to a specific field in one of the rasters in the catalog- I think I might need to try a different approach. Any thoughts? Again- thank you for the feedback. Virginia

And a third question: Can you set up symbology for each of the raster layers in the raster catalogue? I've loaded the 4 rasters to a single catalogue and the rasters are displaying in gray scale. Virginia

Thank you for the clarification Anthony. Two additional questions: 1) Are UNC path's required for the rasters when loading to the catalogue if ArcGIS Server is running on the same machine as the database containing the catalogue? 2) Are the fields added within ArcCatalog? Or in the mxd? Virginia
