Hello, I am receiving the following error my Python code. I am using ArcGIS 10.0 and using the Filter function in my Python code. The code block invoking this error is as follows filterResult = Filter(rasterInputPath) Does anyone know what is causing the following error? File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\arcpy\arcpy\sa\Functions.py", line 4722, in Filter ignore_nodata) File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\arcpy\arcpy\sa\Utils.py", line 47, in swapper result = wrapper(*args, **kwargs) File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\arcpy\arcpy\sa\Functions.py", line 4717, in wrapper ignore_nodata) File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\arcpy\arcpy\geoprocessing\_bas e.py", line 474, in <lambda> return lambda *args: val(*gp_fixargs(args)) ExecuteError: ERROR 999999: Error executing function. Failed to execute (Filter). Strangely, the filter sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. It seems to fail after I try to Krig data and the the message "Unable to estimate semivariogram" occurs.

Hi, Is there a way to set extrusion or base height with ModelBuilder or Python? I was trying to use "Apply Symbology from Layer" but according to the documentation, it does not support 3D symbology. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the help so far. I don't think the quality enhancement is the issue either. I opened a second ArcScene window and loaded the layer and had no difficulty with it. I then copied it and pasted it into the first ArcScene project. This seemed to solve the problem. It is a strange workaround though. I think there is an issue with the projection of the data frame.

Hello, I am using ArcScene with ArcGIS 10. I have a raster image I have krigged. Whenever I load the layer into ArcScene, it loads fine. However, when I attempt to change the symbology, the resolution of the layer becomes low as if there is an error. I have two other rasters in different projections. Could this be the cause? Has anyone encountered anything like this?

Hello, I am using ArcGIS 10 with python scripting. I want to use CalculateField_management to calculate the values of a numeric field based on a string field. However, the string field may have values that are not numeric. Hence, I am getting an error prompt to continue processing if desired. The prompt is in the attachment. I usually get this message when I am doing this in ArcMap and trying to set the numeric field to the string field where non-numeric text exists. However, I am doing this in a python script and the prompt comes up each time. Is there a way around this? My code is as follows. arcpy.CalculateField_management(tablePath, 'numericFieldName', '[stringFieldName]', 'VB') Again, is there any way to complete processing without clicking ok on this prompt?

I dont know why it isnt giving you the syntax when you do the snippit copy thing. Thats how many of us get complex syntax without having to type it all out by hand. I think one thing may be the way that model builder formatted your tool. It may have given you the syntax for 9.3.x instead of 10.x. Now the fields and stat type are strings in nested lists. Try: arcpy.Statistics_analysis(myShpFile, stats_dbf, [["field1","MIN"],["field1","MEAN"],["field1","MAX"],["field1","RANGE"],["field1","STD"],["field2","MIN"],["field2","MEAN"],["field2","MAX"],["field2","STD"],["field2","RANGE"]]) You must have posted this right when I got the answer myself. The help system had this syntax and it worked. Thanks! To do the code snippet procedure you mentioned, do I need to have an interaface on the tool or could I just build a mode without an interface?

To use this I apparently have to create a front end interface. When I copy as Python snippet it only gives me the python interface call like arcpy.("", ""). It does not give me the python statistical invocation.

Try running the tool outside of a model or script. Go to the results window and right click on the results and select "copy as python snippit." Paste this into IDLE or whatever and compare. Exports from model builder sometimes wonk out like this. What results window are you referring?

Hello I am trying to execute Statistics_analysis from a python script. However, it fails when I run it. I exported this from a ModelBuilder from where it runs fine. import arcpy # Local variables: myShpFile = "C:\\temp\\stats\\forms\\outputDir\\0arbuckle\\intersect_1.shp" stats_dbf = "C:\\temp\\stats\\waters\\stats.dbf" # Process: Summary Statistics arcpy.Statistics_analysis(myShpFile, stats_dbf, "field1 MIN;field1 MEAN;field1 MAX;field1 RANGE;field1 STD;field2 MIN;field2 MEAN;field2 MAX;field2 STD;field2 RANGE") However, the execute python script gives me the following error. Traceback (most recent call last): File "stats.py", line 19, in <module> File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\arcpy\arcpy\analysis.py", line 910, in Statistics raise e arcgisscripting.ExecuteError: Failed to execute. Can I use Silverlight to export a ArcMap document? I was hoping to use it to send a HTML document with Silverlight used to a colleague as opposed to a PDF, which we always use. I was assumming I could export my ArcMap document to a Silverlight document and my colleague could open the document in a web browser and view the map. Is this correct?

Hello, I am attempting to iterate through the results of a query and save the previous result to use in an operation with the next result. I am saving the feature returned from the current cursor in a (previous feature) variable for the next iteration. I am trying to make a series of lines from a shapefile of points. My code is below. Note in the while loop, the swap, which does not appear to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
# get an original selection
gp.MakeFeatureLayer_management(shpPath, 'myQuery')
gp.SelectLayerByAttribute('myQuery', 'NEW_SELECTION', '', '', '', 'pointID A')
myCursor = gp.SearchCursor('myQuery')
curFeature= vertexCursor.Next()
while (curVertexFeature):
prevFeature = curFeature
curFeature = myCursor .Next()
print str(prevFeature.getValue('pointID')) + ',' + str(curFeature.getValue('pointID'))

Hi, I have a python script that I would like to build a front end interface in the toolbox. Basically, my script needs an input projection and directory path. Currently, I have the user use a command line and input the parameters by text strings. I would like to use the buttons most tools have to search for a file path and projection. How do I go about creating a toolbox around my existing script? Thanks in advance! Cheers, Chris

Hi, I am interested in testing out Silverlight with some existing data for my client. I know about the extension for ArcGIS at http://resources.esri.com/arcgisserver/apis/silverlight/ What is the best way to get started? I know Visual Studio has a free API for Visual Basic. Is there a IDE for Silverlight for free by chance? If so, what do I have to install? Thanks in advance! Cheers, Chris

Hello, I am looking to add a hillshade to a topographic map. I found a tool at http://freegeographytools.com/2009/3dem-website-is-gone-but-3dem-still-available-here that does almost exactly what I want. However, I really do not want to get into downloading an external tool. I would like to do this in ArcGIS. I have the hillshade 50% transparent over the topographic map. It looks acceptable but not as nice as the map in the above link. How can I improve the appearance? Any suggestions?
