Currently, publishing a map in arcgis online forces us to make underlying feature services (ie : a layer created from shapefile) also public. A public feature is automaticaly visible/usable by other users. So "sharing a map" = "sharing underlaying features" = "rendering them available for any user of arc map (view / download)". It's very bad for private / confidential layers ! Giving it to everyone (i.e. viewed in arc map and then downloaded / copied) is not acceptable. Please allow us to render feature services public (in order to make the map public) without publishing them to all ESRI users : add an option to "block" the sharing. In fact, the WMTS does work with a strange behavior : - i add the WMTS layer in the map -> it doesn't appear. - then i have to configure the "scale of visibility" of the layer -> now, it does appear. But why arcGIS online doesn't add the WMTS layer with the right scale ? I should not have to do such manipulation ... Is this a bug ?

Hello, I have the following problem : i am trying to add on a map a WMTS service, but it fails (nothing appears on the map). This WMTS service comes from IGN (french institute of cartography). The WMTS is the following : http://wxs.ign.fr/rro4opsv20m5v0htwm8t173u/geoportail/wmts He's secured with a "referer" wich means the service accepts only request from arcgis online (https://MYSITE.maps.arcgis.com). Changing the referer to "http://arcgis.com" doesn't work either. This service uses a temporary development key (it's a technical test). Please note the service works, i.e. going to http://wxs.ign.fr/rro4opsv20m5v0htwm8t173u/geoportail/wmts?service=WMTS&version=1.0.0&request=GetCapabilities works. When i'm adding the WMTS reference, i can see the following request behind the scene with a 500 HTTP error (internal server error) : https://civc.maps.arcgis.com/sharing/proxy?http://wxs.ign.fr/rro4opsv20m5v0htwm8t173u/geoportail/wmts/1.0.0/WMTSCapabilities.xml. Do you have any clue ? Thank you very much ! Alex.

OK, thanks for your reply. I think it's not a good thing to have "sharing a map" = "sharing underlaying features" = "rendering them available for any user of arc map". There should be a simple option "make feature public, but don't share it with others ESRI users". It's rather simple, and it would prevent privacy problems ...

Well, it's a bad news ... Is there any chance ArcGIS online will support connecting to secured WMS services in a near future ? Thanks.

I have found where the problem is : the code of http://developers.arcgis.com/en/javascript/sandbox/sandbox.html?sample=map_webmap is buggy : - line 36 : it's "webmapId", not "webapId" - line 46 : another "});" is missing You should correct it ...

I'm trying the second basic tutorial : https://developers.arcgis.com/en/javascript/jstutorials/intro_agstemplate_amd.html The code doesn't work, even in the sandbox : http://developers.arcgis.com/en/javascript/sandbox/sandbox.html?sample=map_webmap (map is blank) I've tested it with IE9 and FF24 ; same results ! Where is the problem ? Sample codes aren't right ? Thanks for your help. Alex.

Hello, I have the following case : - i create a map wich uses a feature (shapefile, WMS, etc.). - i want to share this map with everyone (in order to incorporate it in a website). - when i share the map, i have also to share the underlying feature (no choice) - so, my underlying feature becomes publicly available : i.e anyone can view and re-use it in Arc Map My problem is that this feature is confidential : - it's alright to display it inside a dynamic map - but giving it to everyone (i.e. viewed in arc map and then downloaded / copied) is not acceptable ! Is there any solution in this scenario ? I want to incorparate the map in a public website without publishing the underlying feature as a public ressource for arcgis users. Cheers, Alexandre.

Hello, I'm trying to use a WMS service with ArcGIS online. This is an HTTPS WMS service, with credentials (login / password). It's the service from the IGN (french institute of cartography). URL is something like : https://wxs.ign.fr/XXX/geoportail/r/wms (where "XXX" is a private key). ArcGIS online doesn't allow me to mark login/password when i'm creating the reference to the WMS webservice. When it's launched (layer added to a map), the map asks for credentials, wich is not what i want : when the map will be published, final users won't have to know such informations ! ArcGIS online does't support secured WMS ? Is there any way to make it works ? Cheers, Alexandre. PS : please excuse mispellings, i'm not native english speaker
