Thanks, I didn't know that. We will certainly test if that works for us, performing a schema change without flattening our versioning tree.

Thank you for your anwers. It is good to know that schema changes are possible without unversioning the data. In that way you don't loose the history, which is lost we you unversion your data). What will be a challenge is to get all versions posted before applying schema changes, but that is not different to the situation is with traditional versioning.

What I am wondering is, can you also modify components of the Utility Network (when allowed) while the data is (branch) versioned. Or do you need to unversion the data before applying those modifications? On this page it is clearly explained how and when to modify Utility Network components, but I could not retrieve from this page if you can apply schema changes while the data is versioned: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/data/utility-network/network-topology-actions.htm I think this question is similar to this question asked about schema changes and branch versioning when working with Parcel Fabrics: https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-parcel-fabric-questions/best-practices-for-parcel-fabric-schema-changes-w-branch/td-p/612607

There are two things I can think of which you could check: 1. Is every thing residing on your virtual dekstop? What would work best is to have your MXD, your data and the location where you export the pages to, on the virtual desktop. In that case you minimize network latency as everything is done on the virtual desktop. Of course, after the export of the project you can copy it from the virtual desktop to your local machine. 2. The other issue could be that your MXD is very large. You can check this with PerfQanalyzer or MXDperfstat, these tools are not supported so always make a back-up of your MXD and it is at your own risk. If this doesn't help you can also check https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000012042 to see if there is something else which may apply to your situation.

Could anybody tell me if there is a functionality matrix on what kind of use of the utility network requires to have an Utility Network user type extension (GIS Professional Standard/Advanced or the add-on on other user types)? In example, I would like to know if it is possible to view and trace the utility network without the user type extension in a webapp in Portal or in an Esri app ?

It depends on what you want the user be able to do. If you want them only to search for items and to use public items, enabling the "anonymuous access" on your Portal will do. However, if you want to put them into groups / assign roles to them, you need an identity store. This can be the ArcGIS Portal identity store but it can also be your organization's enterprise identity store. When using an identity provider with SAML 2.0 Single Sign On support, you can give the user a single sign on experience (what is what your are looking for).
