Hi Jawadh, Thank you for your help. I have tried your method to convert the streets to static shapes. After that I did delete the streets below the height map. But I don't want the streets to be static model, because I want to edit the streets further. Do you have any other method to solve this problem? Thanks.

Hi guys, I want to combine the imported osm streets and shapefile in CityEngine, but I have encountered two problems. Could you please help me solve this? First I imported the osm street into CityEngine, after that I tried to delete the streets which can not be aligned to the terrain, but I can not delete them after selecting. The streets are just like the picture below, The second problem is the shapes which I imported into CityEngine coincide with the imported streets. The picture below shows this problem. What should I do to deal with this problem, is there any function or CGA rule to handle this? This is the shapefile which I imported into CityEngine. This picture shows that the shapes coincide with the imported streets. Thank you for your help!

Hi Thomas, Thank you for your help! Based on the attached image you provided, do you mean the "Heightmap file" should be in ".tif" format, and the "Texture file" should be in the ".jpg" format? For my project, I used the ".img" file for the Heightmap file and ".tif" file for the Texture file, as there was no error message displayed, do you think the error is due to the map format I used? With thanks, Tianfang

Hi guys, We tried to follow the video (#5 CityEngine Essential Skills: Importing Terrain and Imagery - YouTube ) to convert both DEM and image into CithEngine, but it did not work. For DEM, we first convert it into a tif format in ArcMap, then copy and paste all the relevant files into CityEngine workspace. But when we preview the tif image in CityEngine, it is just a gray image with no details which can be seen in the following picture, the texture file imported to CityEngine with no details In the fact, the tif image aimed to be used as the texture file of the terrain layer contains lots of details looks like the following picture, For DEM, we went to 'raster calculator' to create a dem.img and then copy and paste it into CithEngine (all files are saved in 'map' folder. but when we bring both into a scene, we got a different image from that in ArcGIS. We could not figure out the reason for that. Could you give me some advise? Thank you so much. Tianfang

Cheryl, thank you so much for your help! I think you are right, I should combine all the initial shapes together before I input them into the CityEngine, there is no way to combine the initial shapes by the CGA rules. I will take your advise and combine them in the ArcGIS. Thank you so much

Yes, when I referring grids I mean the initial shapes imported from the .shp file. In the following picture you can see many shapes in gray color, these are the "grids" (shapes) which are imported from the .shp file. But in my case, I want to combine all these shapes together and let them become one building. In the picture, all these shapes combined together shows the footprint of my building.

Hi Cheryl, I tried to apply the Split Operation but the result is that the separation can only be applied on each grid instead of the whole building geometry. The follow picture shows the result, \ The code I write for the separation is: split(x) {'0.5:Z| '0.2:Y| '0.3:X} What should I do if I don't want to split each grid but to group these grids into several parts? Thanks!

Thank you Cheryl, I think you are right, maybe I need to use the Split Operation, and then attribute different heights to different parts.

Thank you Cheryl, but I don't want to set the height of building in a random value, I want to set it as a specific value which I need. And do you know how to divide the building into several parts? Thank you for your help.

Hi guys, The grids in the following picture is the .shp file which is exported from ArcGIS. Then I read the MEAN_Z attribute from the Object Attribute and attributed it to the following grids. After that I obtained the building in the following picture. Now my work is to modify this building. First I want to change the heights of different parts of the building. My problem is how to apply different rates of change to different parts of the building. I tried to write the code like this: attr MEAN_Z attr height= MEAN_Z*0.5; but the result is the height of the whole building became 0.5 times than before which is not what I need. How can I divide this building into different parts based on so many grids and how can I apply different rates of change to different parts? I think you guys are more professional than me and thank you for your help

Thank you so much Micah, Your answer helped me a lot ! I have tried the answers you provided (the CGA code method and the layer attribute method) and both of them worked really well for my question. Both of them can change the height attribute value corresponding to the shapefile attribute.

Yes, I think you are right, Micah's answer is right. In the CGA code I just named the attribute as what I want to quote from the object attribute. Then the problem was solved. Thank you so much for your help !

Hi Micah, I think I didn't describe my question very clearly. The shapefile in ArcGIS are the pictures below which can show that the height for each grid is different from each other. And when the shapefile is imported to the CityEngine, the height attribute for each grid is also imported. But I don't know you how to read and assigned each height attribute automatically by the cga code. Thank you for your patience. This is the 2-D grid mesh geometry and the table on the right side is the height attribute for each grid: This is the 3-D view of the building I want to build in CityEngine which the height of each grid is different from each other: With thanks, Bests, Tianfang Jiang

Hi Micah, Thank you so much for helping me, and sorry about replying you so late. I have tried the code you gave me, but it does not modify the geometry to what I want. Can the code you gave me read each grid's MEAN_Z attribute from the shapefile automatically and also make the height attribute be assigned to the building model? With thanks, Best Regards, Tianfang Jiang
