Thanks Mike for checking. It works for me now too, and I didn't change anything! I suspect it might be our server caching kml files - maybe my code was wrong on the first network link kml and when I got the correct code the server was still using the old file. Anyway, thanks! This link seems to work for me, but interestingly, it doesn't work in Google Earth. "http://data.cabq.gov/transit/realtime/route/allroutes_network.kml" To add it to the web map, from the Map Viewer, I clicked Add>Add file from web. I chose the KML option and entered the URL. Thanks, Mike

We have a kml file that is updated every 5 seconds. I would like to use this as a layer in ArcGIS Online. I can add the kml file directly, but it does not update. So I created another kml with a network link to that kml. When I try to add that to a map in ArcGIS Online I get the error message: ------ The KML, http://at http://data.cabq.gov/transit/realtime/route/allroutes_network.kml, cannot be added to the map. It is either not available or you have entered an invalid URL for the type of layer you want to reference. ------- Does this work in theory? To get ArcGIS Online to refresh a kml file at a set interval of seconds? If it should work can anyone tell where my kml code is wrong? Here is the link to the ArcGIS Online map. Here is the latest code for the network link kml. I have tried a bunch of different iterations of the code using suggestions from this forum, Google's kml reference, and a general Google search. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <kml> <folder> <NetworkLink> <name>All Transit Routes</name> <open>1</open> <visibility>1</visibility> <Url> <href>http://data.cabq.gov/transit/realtime/route/allroutes.kml</href> <refreshMode>onInterval</refreshMode> <refreshInterval>10</refreshInterval> <viewRefreshMode>onStop</viewRefreshMode> <viewRefreshTime>7</viewRefreshTime> </Url> </NetworkLink> </folder> </kml> Thanks for your help. OK, I see. I tried that and was able to share the Explorer Online map with my ArcGIS Online account and deploy it that way. Awkward, but it seems to work! Thanks for your help. Mike

Thanks for responding so quickly. I was able to use Explorer (I didn't see the filter option, I had to use the Tools|Query tool). I created the map, and then uploaded it to ArcGIS Online. But now I can't do anything with it. I would like to embed it on my web site, but I can't actually open it in ArcGIS Online, and when I click Share it does not give me the option to get the embed code like with all my other content. So can users only see this in Explorer? That doesn't work with our model of providing maps on the web. Now all our users would have to download Explorer just to see this map. Or am I missing something? Thanks, Mike ArcGIS.com doesn't support adding layers with a query expression. The map in ArcGIS.com also doesn't currently support defining a query on a layer. However, our Silverlight based application, ArcGIS Explorer Online, will allow you to define such a query (called a filter) and apply it to a layer in the web map. Subsequently, the ArcGIS.com map viewer will respect this layer filter when opening the web map. Here's a help topic that describes how to filter the data in a layer. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/help/#/Filter_features/015600000059000000/ Thanks, Mike

I am trying to add a layer from one of our ArcGIS Server services to a map in ArcGIS Online. I only want a subset of the data from a layer in the service: http://doscarto.cabq.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/public/parks/MapServer/0/query?where=PARKSTATUS='D' I think I have created the query correctly, but in ArcGIS Online when I go to Add|Add Layer from Web|ArcGIS Server Web Service and paste in that URL I get the error message "The layer is not a supported type and can not be added to the map. If I leave off the query the layer can be added. Is it possible to create a query in this way? If not, is there another way to add just a subset of a layer? Thanks for your help, Mike Rock

The public map gallery template is very nice - several departments at the City of Albuquerque are highly interested in using it to share maps with the public. However, there is a need to allow users to turn on and off layers. This can be done now - sort of. You have to click on About, then Map Contents, then Open, then Open in ArcGIS.com Viewer, then click an unlabeled button. Hard for the average citizen. It would be much more useful and simple to just enable turning on and off layers in the Legend section of the map in the gallery. Thanks, Mike Rock GIS Analyst City of Albuquerque
