We are dealing with the same issue here as well which is beyond annoying to say the least. I'm hoping ESRI addresses this as well. Just wanted to add my frustration along with the others.

I way overthought what I was doing. I registered the database on Server then utilized the QueryTask as stated. I then created the query for the values and then pushed those into an array and converted them into lat/lon as needed then created a graphic for them and added them to the map. Problem solved. Thank you all for the input.

O.K. I've been struggling with this for a bit and need to get some further input. This is what I was thinking but it's not working out for me. I've utilized the example for the TableDataSource from ESRI but can't seem to get this. The SDE table has two records in it, a lat and lon value. I need to simply get access to these so I can manipulate the values from NMEA decimal degrees to degrees minutes seconds. This is what I have so far. Simply trying to get these values from table: # records: 2 instance: 3 val: 3609.842234 instance: 5 val: 11509.241511 var gpsTable = new TableDataSource();
= "GISMO.CFDBSRV.sde";
= "KiwiSysLog.dbo.uv_WIFIGPSLog";
var layerSource = new LayerDataSource();
= gpsTable;
var featureLayer = new FeatureLayer("https://sampleserver6.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/USA/MapServer/dynamicLayer", {
"*"],
source: layerSource

OK, I now have access to the table in Catalog but when I try to publish it, it wants to copy the database to server. I don't want that as the View will not be refreshed each time I want to look at it. Open to ideas. Thank you.

My only issue with this is I cannot connect to this server in ArcCatalog so I can't access the database or the table I need. I have read only access to it through SQL Server Management Studio. Going to work with my database admin to see how to resolve this. If I can get it into a map then I'll do what you said Evelyn. Thank you.

Here is my current scenario. I need to gain access to a SQL Server called say, SERVER1. Below is the custom SQL Query that I Need to utilize in order to get the most recent GPS record. I can't seem to figure out how to utilize this in my JavaScript Application to get this data. Of course once I get the data I need to dig into it to get the lat/lon, convert it, then map it. One step at a time. Perhaps using $.ajax to do a GET but not quite sure how to go about this. SQL Query: SELECT S.MSGTEXT
FROM [dbo].[Syslogd] S
INNER JOIN
(SELECT T.[MsgDate] AS 'MSGDATE' ,MAX(L.[MsgTime]) AS 'MSGTIME'
FROM [KiwiSysLog].[dbo].[Syslogd] L
INNER JOIN
(SELECT MAX(MSGDATE) AS 'MSGDATE' FROM [dbo].[Syslogd]) T
ON L.MsgDate = T.MSGDATE
GROUP BY T.MSGDATE) DT
ON S.MsgDate = DT.MSGDATE AND S.MsgTime = DT.MSGTIME Results in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express: $GPGGA,222020.0,3609.839478,N,11509.243300,W,1,08,0.8,618.9,M,-18.0,M,,,9999*4F $GPRMC,222020.0,A,3609.839478,N,11509.243300,W,1.1,302.7,270416,0.0,E,A,9999*34 I appreciate the help. John

Robert, I embed it in the content portion of an InfoTemplate. Perhaps that's my issue. var CMWGPointContent = "<b><u>${PROJECT_NAME}</u></b> " +
" <br><b>Project Status: </b>${PROJECT_STATUS} " +
" <br><b>Construction Type: </b>${CONSTR_TYPE} " +
" <br><b>Design Start:</b> ${EST_DESIGN_START:DateString(hideTime: true)} " +
" <br><b>Design End:</b> ${EST_DESIGN_END:DateString(hideTime: true)} " +
" <br><b>Construction Start:</b> ${ACTUAL_CONSTR_START:DateString(hideTime: true)} " +
" <br><b>Construction End:</b> ${EST_CONSTR_END:DateString(hideTime: true)} " +
" <br><b>Owner: </b>${OWNER} " +
" <br><b>Contact Name: </b>${PROJECT_CONTACT_NAME} " +
" <br><b>Contact Phone: </b>${PROJECT_CONTACT_PHONE} " +
" <br><hr><b>Find Nearby Projects</b> " +

var CMWGPointTemplate = new InfoTemplate();
CMWGPointTemplate.setContent(CMWGPointContent);

Robert, I tried that yet it doesn't support the min, max, maxlength. When I put it was type='number' I get the step, min, max values but if something simply removes what in there they can type whatever. Frustrating. I was reading and I believe that it's a supporting browser thing as well if I'm correct in what I'm reading. Chrome Supports the maxlength but nothing else (min, max, step). IE Supports the maxlength but nothing else. Firefox supports the maxlength but nothing else. IS there something I'm doing wrong in order to utilize the min, max, step values? Thank you so much for the help.

OK, still having issues with this. Problem is that the max value can be overwritten if the user types in a value. The maxlength is working fine but the max and min values can be overwritten by user interaction. Is there a way to fix this? This code resides in my main.js file outside of my index.html page (If that is perhaps a cause). var PointContent = "Enter Buffer Distance in Miles: <input type='number' value='0.25' min='0.25' max='7' step='0.25' maxlength='5' id='bufferDistancePoint'><br>
<button id='point-button' onclick='findNearby(${OBJECTID})'>Find Projects</button>";
var PointTemplate = new InfoTemplate();
PointTemplate.setContent(PointContent);

I just wanted to thank everyone for all their input. Initially I wanted to utilize cursors and today I'll see if I can resolve the question using them. What I have works for the time being and yes, utilizing cursors and if else statements will be my final goal. I'll work through the code again and will post my cursor version once I get it working for me. Again, thank you all who have taken the time for the help.

Yeah, it's driving me nuts to be honest. The Current_DATE that I mentioned was me simply trying to figure out the current date in a format that would allow my query to work. In SDE I have a feature class that I'm trying to access the ACTUAL_SUBSTANTIAL_COMPLETION field which is a date field. I want to compare that field against todays date and if it's <= to today then I can calculate a value into the PROJECT_STATUS field. I hope this helps get you a better understanding of what I'm doing. When I create the query it continues to tell me invalid expression.
