Due to time constraints I'll not be pursuing this further at this time. Thank you Kelly Gerrow and Thomas Edghill for reaching out though.

Some group categories were setup from a Groups > (Group name) >Content Tab. The group categories work as expected from the Groups > (Group name) > 'Content Tab' View. However, if the group categories are accessed from the Content > My Groups > 'Group Name' > 'Select a group category' The group categories don't work. Some interesting observations and information are:- 1) The quantity next to the group categories are accurate (January (23), February (14), etc ) 2) If no group categories are selected, all items are listed. 3) The account I'm logged in with is an administrator account. 4) The content in the group is created by another account in the organization. 5) ArcGIS Enterprise is at version 10.6.1. Why don't the group categories filter content when viewed from the group category options available under the content tab of the Enterprise portal?

4-core license model is for ArcGIS Server licenses, and not for ArcGIS Enterprise Sites. You cannot (should not) set up an active-active HA with only 1 license of GIS Server. If you have more than 1 machine available for your deployment, the option to split the components available with an ArcGIS Enterprise site (Portal for ArcGIS, Web Adaptor, ArcGIS Data Store and ArcGIS Server) is available to you.

Scenario: If I have ArcGIS Enterprise Standard, I get 5 Portal level 2 named users. In addition to this, if I have 5 ArcGIS Desktop, I'll get 5 ArcGIS Online level 2 named users. Kindly consider the below three questions separately. Q1. Do the 5 AGOL L2 named users have to be part of the same AGOL organization account, or can there be one AGOL organization account for 3 users and another AGOL organization account for 2 users? Q2. Can the AGOL L2 named users be converted to Portal L2 named users so Portal can have a 10 named users? If yes, then is opposite be true as well? Q3. Finally, as I understand, if there are 5 ArcGIS Desktop licenses purchased, I will have 5 ArcGIS Pro licenses tied to 5 AGOL named users. Can these 5 ArcGIS Pro licenses be moved from AGOL named users to Portal named users, such that the portal named users can now login to ArcGIS Pro? Answers to any of these questions will be appreciated. Thanks, Thomas

Jayanta Poddar FC Basson Thank you for the links. However, they do not answer my query on the difference between the two items. To me, its already clear what is a feature service, a hosted feature layer and a hosted layer feature view in ArcGIS Online. However, the items Feature Layer and Feature Layer (hosted, view) seem to be the same although having different names in ArcGIS Online. Are there any differences between these two other than the name? - this is what I'm hoping to understand.

A Feature Layer (hosted, view) and a Feature Layer are both types of items in ArcGIS Online. A Feature Layer (hosted, view) is created using the 'Create View' option available in the Item details page of a hosted feature layer. A Feature Layer is created using the Simple Copy option of ArcGIS Online Assistant. Other than the way these two items are created, are there any differences between a Feature Layer (hosted, view) and a Feature Layer?

I had the same problem. The Analyze option did not catch any errors. I resolved it by 'Inserting a new map' and adding the layer again. Then publishing worked. Seems like bug at this point.

There are two ways cores on a physical machine affect ArcGIS Server. 1. Licensing - Every license of ArcGIS Server is for 4 CPU cores. 2. Performance - The System Design Strategy guide states that peak throughput for ArcGIS Server is reached if total map services instances are 3 - 5 (average 4) per core. Therefore, on a 4 core machine you could get peak throughput by configuring a total 16 map services instances.* Many computers today have a hyper-threaded CPU which show more number of logical processors than cores. See image below. On such machines, is ArcGIS Server licensing and performance to consider this as a 4 core or a 8 core machine? For licensing - should I purchase two licenses? For performance - can I configure 16 or 32* map service instances? *4 map service instances per core may not always be the case and this number may change as per you service contents and configuration. For more details, refer to the Server Software Performance section of the System Design Strategy guide.

Thank you for this information. Related to performance of these services, when a map service refreshes on Operations Dashboard, ArcGIS Server will generate a new image for all the features and send it to the operations view. But when a feature service refreshes, do all the features stream to operations view or only the modified and new features stream back to the operations view? Knowing this will help understand if network capacity plays an important role when working with a large number of features and a feature service.

Thanks! Insightful, especially since I was looking to know if there would be a performance gain by not using web adaptor.

Are there any benefits (performance, quality of display or any other) to having map service layers in operations dashboard vs having feature service layers? In my case, the dashboard will be used to display live data coming in from a geoevent service updated to a feature services. The operations dashboard will be used to check for updates to the layer (map or feature, depending on what I decide to use) every 6 seconds. Is there any difference if the layers in the operations dashboard were map or feature layers? I'm looking for opinions but any documentation to support will also be appreciated. Kindly share your thoughts.

This is how I plan to use ArcGIS Server. It will be federated with a portal. It will be used only to run GIS services that will be accessed by Operations Dashboard. It is currently planned to have Portal and the 'web adaptor for portal' on one machine and ArcGIS Server on another machine In this scenario is there any benefits are negatives by not configuring ArcGIS Server with a web adaptor. My research led me to this link which lists all the benefits of having a web adapter with ArcGIS Server. Link: About the ArcGIS Web Adaptor http://server.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/install/windows/about-the-arcgis-web-adaptor.htm None of the benefits listed in the above link seem to apply to my case. Infact I can see a negative. If I configure the web adaptor on the portal machine with ArcGIS Server on the second machine, every request for a service will go to the web adpator machine and then to arcgis server instead of going directly to ArcGIS Server. However, the link for federating ArcGIS Server with Portal "indicates" that ArcGIS Server must be linked with a web adaptor before federating. See the link and excerpt below showing this. Link: Federate an ArcGIS Server site with your portal http://server.arcgis.com/en/portal/latest/administer/windows/federate-an-arcgis-server-site-with-your-portal.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Excerpt: Services URL—The URL used by external users when accessing the ArcGIS Server site. If the site includes the Web Adaptor, the URL includes the Web Adaptor address, for example,http://webadaptor.domain.com/arcgis. If you've added ArcGIS Server to your organization's reverse proxy server, the URL is the reverse proxy server address (for example, http://reverseproxy.domain.com/myorg). If your organization requires HTTPS for all communication, use https instead of http. Excerpt ends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Therefore, as per my scenario, does anyone think I should configure ArcGIS Server with a web adaptor. Can I use the url http://server:6080/arcgis as Services URL to federate without any problems. Kindly share your thoughts.

The problem has come back again. Its still observable only on one machine. But it turns out that only if you enable 'feature access' on the service, this issue occurs. It occurs if you add either the REST link of the map service or feature service to create a web map that is opened in Operations Dashboard. The issue cannot be seen if a map service layer without feature access is added to a web map and viewed in Operations Dashboard. Since this issue is occurring only on a test machine, I'm not taking it to Tech Support yet, but anyone else running into this issue or with a solution could discuss about it here.
