I asked this a few months ago but never got any further insight... Hello all, I'm trying to figure out how to best create an Arcgis Server service (map and feature service) that connects to a geodatabase/sde and displays 2525C features to a client that connects to the service via a custom web application. We can assume that the underlying data would contain the correct 2525C code. I can't seem to find much relevant information this. It's unrealistic to think that one would have to create an mxd that would contain all different 2525 symbologies that are mapped to all the symbol codes and then create a service out of that. Is this even possible out-of-the-box? Would this require custom code? Any additional information and/or directions would be very much appreciated it!

How do I change the max number of connections to an SDE without the sdeconfig commandline tools? I'm using 10.2 with a postgres rdbms. I don't know why this is such a difficult task.

Keep in mind that cached services are not the same as dynamic services. I believe the time slider behaves as expected when you use a dynamic (non-cached) map service. In a cached service, you're not actually looking at the 'true features' but instead are looking at static images of those features. Put differently, cached services generate tiled image files that do not (and cannot) change until you re-generate part or all of the cache. Think of a cached service as a "snapshot" of the map at one point in time. Cached services are great for data that does not change much (once per quarter or once per year, as an example). But for data that changes more often, you would likely want a dynamic service so that the changes to your data (e.g., polygons, points, lines) can be seen when you refresh the service. So, back to the question about time sliders with cached services... I don't believe the time slider will give you the effect you're looking for in a cached map service. Here is a related thread which references the time slider as it pertains to the Silverlight API. When I read through Christopher Hill's post though, I feel like the time slider will only work with time aware layers... those which contain time aware attribution that supplied through a dynamic service. I don't think time slider functionality is available for a tilemap layer. I think this is why the time slider you did implement has not given you the behavior you wanted. Thanks Will, I wasn't expecting it to work as described, and was surprised that during publishing and analysing phase, a more explicit warning doesn't come up. Wanted to verify that I'm seeing the intended behaviour. Thanks!

Hey All, Just wanted to get a solid answer from someone. My question is very similar to: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/63390-Bug-with-arcpy-in-a-thread (2012) I'm trying to intermittently inject data into an SDE in Python (via a Tkinter interface). I would like to start the function in a thread so that the UI will not be locked up but everytime I call InsertCursor, for example, arcpy.InsertCursor(self.featureClassList[5]) within a Thread I get a catastrophic crash... Is this an impossible task? T

Hey all, I have been running into this one problem I can't seem to figure out. Perhaps someone out there may be able to throw me a bone. Setup: I have laptop that has ArcGis Server & ArcDesktop 10 (recently installed SP2). The ArcGIS server is configured properly for all I know and I can make a remote admin connection to it via ArcCatalog. I created several Mosaic Data Sets that I wanted to publish as image services. The raw raster files are located locally on the C:\ drive. Some are GeoTiffs and some are JPEG2000's. I can publish the Mosaic Data Sets with no issues (using the Right Click Context Menu) and I enable WCS & WMS along with it. Once published, I can open my server connection in ArcCatalog and see the available services. I can click on the services & view my rasters. I can also view my Rasters when I make a WMS connection to a specific service. Keep in mind, that I'm doing this via ArcCatalog that is resident on the ArcGIS host machine. The problem occurs when I try to access the data from a different machine. However, the problem is only when I try to make a WMS connection to one of the specific service. If I make a GISServer connection (via ArcCatalog) on a remote system, I can freely look at my rasters (via imageService). I can add the WMS service in ArcCatalog but when I select the layer I can't see my raster. Nothing but blank. I just can't seem to look at these rasters via WMS from remote systems. I tried disabling the firewall and made sure that the SOC has permissions - but this shouldn't be an issue if it's WMS anyways. Any ideas anyone? Tango

Hey All, I have a huge DB of rasters and i would like to generate coverage vectors (shape files) out of them. Basically, the vector will only have one polyline outlining the extent of the coverage for the vector. What I want to do is generate all these coverage vectors and overlay them on a map (which will be probably be some type of webservice) so that people in my organization can look at the coverage and availability of raster data. It would be cool if I can generate the same type of grids that show up when you're viewing a raster catalog that is made up of bunch tiles that are greater than the # set in the display setting (when "always show" is not selected). Any insights on how to easily do this would be great!
