I'm trying to change the symbology of a point layer using the "onok" event in the form properties of an editform. Nothing fancy required, simply that the point is one colour when the project is started, once the operator opens an edit form for a point and then clicks "OK" to close it, the point changes colour. I need a simple script to run the change but my scripting skills are poor - done plenty of online study but never use it enough for it to "stick" - so was hoping someone would have a script on file that I could import and modify. Anyone able to offer help to the "script challenged"? 😄 Stuart Cassin

Hi Tim, Thanks for the update. I think my issue may be related but not this issue specifically as I'm not exporting to .AXF (working in shapefiles) and my unique category for symbology doesn't contain any NULL values - the category is an ID Field so everything has a value. Also, my map frame is not freezing it's just not representing as intended. I've further discovered that when I turn off some of the geographically larger symbols off, the smaller one's come on and represent correctly. It appears to be more of a case of ArcPad not honoring symbol levels as set up in ArcGIS. Regards Stuart

Further to this issue: I have set some symbology for some polygon layers within ArcMap (9.3.1) and used the ArcPad Data Manager to get data for ArcPad. The symbology is only being partly honored and represented within ArcPad 10.2. I've tried changing symobology levels and other variations but nothing seems to make a difference - a bug perhaps?? Hi, I've had this problem as well and was thankful for the following assistance. This script will read the GPS when it's running and populate the nominated fields in a .dbf via an EDITFORM Enter this code in the onload event for the EDITFORM, and it looks like this: Dim page1 Set page1 = thisevent.object("Page1") page1("dblSUV_EAST").value = gps.x page1("dblSURV_NORTH").value = gps.y This was quick, simple and very effective. Hope this helps. Stuart

Simarly, I'm finding the same thing with labelling in ArcPad 10. I've set some label parameters for a Polygon shapefile (remove duplicates / keep labels within the polygon) which represent perfectly in ArcGIS but when the file is exported into ArcPad, the symbology works fine but the labelling isn't honored.

Cheers Denise, It looks like a good option but I need to populate the form as it opens so the field staff can visully confirm the location has been captured and potentially compare the captured XY coordinates with previous coordinate readings. So I need to auto populate the X and Y fields with the readings from the GPS device. If anyone can step-by-step detail how I go about achieving this, I'll be enternally grateful.

This looks exactly like the thing I need to execute the same function. Like Geogeek, my VB skills are extremely limited so I'm not sure how to get this into a .apl. I've had few trys at it and it's not coming together (ran it in ArcPad a few times with no result) so I'm obviously missing a step or two. Can anyone give me a step by step, talk to me like I'm a 5 yr old, method of writing this script into a form please??

I've been trying to establish a relate between a shp file and a table today and the process appears to be successful but when I select a feature and then the related table from the options menu, the related table is greyed out and unavaialble. I have no idea why the related data won't show up as i know for a fact that it's in the table (it's confirmed data) and can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. Any ideas would be greatfully accepted.

Back again. Still trying to get these X Y coord fields populated using Map.Pointer X/Y and really struggling. I'd really appreciate anyone who could give me some PLAIN ENGLISH instructions on how to achieve this or a sample code. All I'm trying to do is put the X & Y coords of where the screen has been touched into an edit form. Thanks Stuart Cassin

Thanks for the feedback Eric, Unfortunately it didn't work and I don't know how to use Map.PointerX / Map.PointerY. As I said, complete novice in scripting so I'm really at a loss as to how to get this going. Stuart Cassin

As a dedicated non scripter, I'm trying to create an editform that automatically populates an easting and northing control on the form. I know that vb scripts are easily created to do that using the "updateformfromshape" call, but I have no idea where or how to start. Can anyone supply the code or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance Stuart Cassin

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the child element parameter of the select tool does not accept the general description of polyline as an input. Once again the Select tool asks for each polyline feature to be nominated individaully i.e 12345.dxf / polyline. If I have a folder containing over 1500 dxf files, each individually identified, and each one conatins 5 features (Annotation, Point, Polyline, Polygon and Multipatch), the problem I have is building a model that will extract each polyline feature from the individual dxf files without having to nominate the dxf by title. Still hoping someone can help.

As someone whose only had a fleeting exposure to model builder and detailed geoprocessing tasks, I'm hoping someone can help me. I have approx. 1500 dwg files from which I wish to extract only the polyline feature so I can merge them all into one dataset. I've tried a number of conversion tasks like converting the DWG to .shp or .gdb which either crash or ask me to select each individual feature class withing the dwg dataset which kind of defeats the purpose. Any suggestions on how I can geoprocess this task so the folder containing all the .DWG's is interrogated to extract only the Polyline features and exports them to a single location?

If your data is being stored on the physical memory of the device and it completely disharges that battery, then you hve a fair chance of losing data. If it's on a seperate storage medium like an SD card then power loss shouldn't be an issue.
