Sorry I don't have more helpful advice. Perhaps cross post this (the correct way) in the ArcGIS API for JavaScript place?

Yeah, maybe this is a bug? What version are you using? When reading through the link that sunny posted above, maybe there are some possible work-arounds like this one - 35095 - Convert EPS, PDF, and AI text to graphic objects while exporting I understand wanting to figure out the cause, or possible solutions, even if exporting to PNG is an alternative. Maybe someone else or someone from ESRI will have a better solution. Please let us know if you find a solution. Thanks!

I see, so are you using code to export to a PDF then? I guess it does this manually as well... I would have to test on my end and cannot at the moment, sorry. Anything different about that text (annotation, labeling engine, font, etc?)

Hey Ian, Have you tried printing to a PDF writer instead? It will flatten the output considerably though, if all you need the pdf image it works for me often with smaller file size.

Wow, then you have had worse experiences than I have! They usually try the normal template, renaming folders, uninstalling 3rd party apps, possible patches, and ask a lot of questions about our setup and applications. OR sometimes they require me to send them a project or some data in order to test on their end and find the solution. Several times I have asked for a screen sharing session and that the incident be escalated in the very beginning, while also explaining the situation in detail and everything that I have already tried.

Yeah, that's what I was hinting at. I believe you were responding when I added that comment. oops. Maybe they can share that flow chart with us? Many of us have a general idea from our own troubleshooting experience. There must be many flowcharts for all the different configurations and products and license levels. Maybe someone with unlimited time and support calls can reverse engineer the flow chart for us? (just kidding of course)

Close all arc products and reopen them Look in task manager and kill entire process tree when application hangs Restart computer (various other troubleshooting depending on specific problem) Repair Install Uninstall & reinstall Call support Darren Wiens I like this. It makes me think that there should be a Q/A flow chart! I'm guessing there probably already is one used by tech support.

MXD Doctor for corrupted maps Rename ESRI folder in Program Files? I think that has helped me once before and a suggestion I got from support once or twice.

Have you noticed if any other departments rely heavily on the E911 address data? Who generally notifies your group when there is an error or discrepancy in the data? (the public, other departments, etc.)

Here is what I can think of off the top of my head at the moment: E911 emergency response Law Enforcement Delivery Services (USPS) Disaster Response (This is where the library was) Transportation services (both public & private) Taxation & Appraisal (The tax rate is too high over there) Elections (Where do I vote?) Waste Disposal services (why didn't they pick up my trash) Insurance Rates (I'm how far from a fire hydrant!) Location analysis (using address type and density) Economic Development It's similar to asking why place is important, so the short answer is that it's important to everything. As I think about some of the topics I have listed I realize it depends on the attribute data too. Perhaps there is no address type field to show residential, commercial, industrial, etc., in which case the data may be less useful...

Very broad question here... I would like to hear from the community about all the things you can think of where address data is important, especially public services or government services. Obviously there is no right or wrong answer, any thoughtful responses would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Here is a cool video Video Link : 2470 If you have a couple minutes you may find it interesting, it shows a third party app that is a lot like google street view, only it is within ArcMap. I would like to have that extension... There must be significant data collection involved in this process, similar to ortho imagery and oblique imagery, it's only a snapshot in time and as time passes it loses it's accuracy and value for showing the current.

I think the possibilities are nearly endless, the imagination and advances in technology will continue to answer this question for us as time goes on. While 3D is certainly not a replacement for the good ole fashion 2D maps, it is a great advance in our mapping capabilities and a great leap forward IMO. I think one of the greatest challenges would be to keep these data up-to-date. So we have added another dimension x, y & now z. Lets add t the time dimension too. ESRI has already started on this with time enabled data, so I'm sure it's already being done with 3D mapping too. Like Uncle Ben said, "with great power comes great responsibility" and maintaining the accuracy of 3D data may be a bigger challenge than with 2D. I wonder what other advances in technology might hinder possible benefits of 3D mapping applications. For example, drones could certainly help with 3D mapping, but could they also limit some of the advantages of 3D mapping? Clouding the skies with moving features in the visible z dimension?
