I have a GP Service that was published in 10.0 as a tool layer in a map document. The service accesses several layers in the map. I have followed the instructions at http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/#/Migrating_geoprocessing_services_from_version_10_to_10_1/0154000004t9000000/ , specifically the section entitled "Publish a map document containing tool layers (no result map service)" to publish the service in 10.1. I executed the tool in the map document and got a successful result which I published with no apparent issues. However, when I test the tool from the REST service via the SubmitJob operation, the following error is returned: esriJobMessageTypeError: Traceback (most recent call last): File "G:\arcgisserver\directories\arcgissystem\arcgisinput\RDI\ParcelSelectorFullScript.GPServer\extracted\v101\tools\ParcelSelectorFullScript.py", line 56, in arcpy.SelectLayerByAttribute_management(COR_ZONING__2_, "NEW_SELECTION", Zoning) File "c:\program files\arcgis\server\arcpy\arcpy\management.py", line 6461, in SelectLayerByAttribute raise e ExecuteError: Failed to execute. Parameters are not valid. ERROR 000732: Layer Name or Table View: Dataset COR_ZONING does not exist or is not supported Failed to execute (SelectLayerByAttribute). COR_ZONING is the layer in the map document from which I published the script. I have registered the directory containing the file geodatabase referenced by the layer in the map document as well.

I'm running a simple shapefile copy script that takes an input file path and copies the shapefile. The script runs fine and does the copy. The output file ends up in the jobs directory. However, after the copy succeeds, then the service crashes and returns a failed status: Job ID: j135a06a5f70c4f2bb7d33839d51c4bf7 Job Status: esriJobFailed Job Messages: * esriJobMessageTypeInformative: Submitted. * esriJobMessageTypeInformative: Executing... * esriJobMessageTypeInformative: Executing (GetShapefileScript): GetShapefileScript e:\carbon\data\Skattebo.shp # * esriJobMessageTypeInformative: Start Time: Thu Jul 21 15:15:58 2011 * esriJobMessageTypeInformative: Running script GetShapefileScript... * esriJobMessageTypeInformative: Completed script GetShapefileScript... * esriJobMessageTypeInformative: Succeeded at Thu Jul 21 15:15:58 2011 (Elapsed Time: 0.00 seconds) * esriJobMessageTypeError: Failed. * esriJobMessageTypeError: Execution of job j135a06a5f70c4f2bb7d33839d51c4bf7 failed because of crash or termination of the server object. I am having trouble getting even the most simple GP service to work when accessing via the browser/javascript apis. I'm on my 3rd GP Service test (now the simplest) and always get the same error. I created a "BufferPoint" GP service following the tutorial at http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisserver/10.0/help/arcgis_server_dotnet_help/index.html#/GP_service_step_by_step_Buffer_points/00930000003n000000/ I can successfully test the "submitJob" operation of the GP Service by putting the data into the form at the REST service url http://myserver/ArcGIS/rest/services/test/test/GPServer/BufferPoint/submitJob like this: Value for Point (GPFeatureRecordSetLayer):
{
"geometryType" : "esriGeometryPoint",
"spatialReference" : {"wkid" : 3857},
"features" : [
{
"geometry" : {"x" : -13087726.5, "y" : 6444025.3},
"attributes" : {"Id" : 43, "Name" : "Feature 1"}
}
]
}
Value for Distance (GPLinearUnit):
{"distance" : 3000, "units" : "esriMeters"}
The javascript was taken directly from the samples:
gp = new esri.tasks.Geoprocessor("http://myserver/ArcGIS/rest/services/test/test/GPServer/BufferPoint");
gp.setOutSpatialReference({wkid:3875});
var graphic = new esri.Graphic(evt.mapPoint,pointSymbol);
var features= [];
features.push(graphic);
var featureSet = new esri.tasks.FeatureSet();
featureSet.features = features;
var buffDistance = new esri.tasks.LinearUnit();
buffDistance.distance = 3000;
buffDistance.units = "esriMeters";
var params = { "Point":featureSet, "Distance":buffDistance };
gp.submitJob(params, drawBuffer, statusCallback,function(error){
alert(error);
});
I also tried hand coding the JSON definition I used in the REST service test and get the same error:
var featureJSON = {
"geometryType" : "esriGeometryPoint",
"spatialReference" : {"wkid" : 3857},
"features" : [
{
"geometry" : {"x" : -13087726.5, "y" : 6444025.3},
"attributes" : {"Id" : 43, "Name" : "Feature 1"}
}
]
};
var featureSet = new esri.tasks.FeatureSet(featureJSON);
[...]
Any ideas on what I need to do to find the reason for the error? Thanks!

I'm getting a "unable to complete operation" error when submitting the job. I am using a very simple GP Service having followed the Buffer Points GP Service tutorial at http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisserver/10.0/help/arcgis_server_dotnet_help/index.html#/GP_service_step_by_step_Buffer_points/00930000003n000000/ The only difference from the tutorial s that I am buffering a polygon from a feature layer instead of a point clicked by the user. Here is my code:
function useGPTool(evt) {
var gp = new esri.tasks.Geoprocessor("http://gis2/ArcGIS/rest/services/test/test/GPServe/TestBuffer");
gp.setOutSpatialReference({wkid:3875});
//get feature from polyLayer to pass into gp tool
var query = new esri.tasks.Query();
query.where = "OBJECTID = 1";
query.outFields = ["*"];
polyLayer.queryFeatures(query, function (features) {
var featureList = features.features;
if (featureList.length > 0) {
alert("Feature(s) found.");
var featureSet = new esri.tasks.FeatureSet();
featureSet.features = featureList;
var params = new Object();
params.AOI = featureSet;
params.Distance = 2000;
gp.submitJob(params, completeCallback , statusCallback,function(error){
alert(error);
});
} else {
alert("No features found.");
}
}, displayMsg);
}
Here is the Rest service description:

After I change your proxy page to mine, the code works fine. Please see the attached screen shot. e.g. esriConfig.defaults.io.proxyUrl = "http://<server name>/proxy/proxy.ashx"; In the proxy.config file, make sure you have set the serverURL of your ArcGIS services: e.g. <serverUrl url="http://dingo.gapanalysisprogram.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/" matchAll="true"></serverUrl> Try to run your application via server URL in the browser: e.g. http://<server name>/bufferTest.html , instead of just double clicking the html file. Use firebug or fiddler to check if there is any error returns while running the application. I've been stumped on a similar issue for a week and this suggestion fixed my problem!! Thanks!!

Do you include this script tag in your page? <script type="text/javascript"> var djConfig = { parseOnLoad: true };</script> Yes, it is there. This same code runs on my windows xp machine that has arcgis server enterprise and postgresql installed. Thanks for asking. I am hoping you'll think of something for me to check that finds the problem! I walked through the setup of the proxy code again yesterday. I had forgotten to set up the proxy folder as an application on the windows server 2008 machine. I did that step yesterday morning, but it did not fix the issue.

I checked the folder C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ArcGIS\rest and did not see the arcgiswebservices user listed in the permissions, so I went ahead and added it. Unfortunately, I am still getting the same error! have you add your new services directory to your proxy.config. When you do a spatial query, it usually involved geometry-huge querysting!. That means that most likely your query have to go throug POST not GET... I've been wondering about that, too since I can run the query using the REST query form. But, still no luck figuring it out. Here is my proxy.config file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <!-- Proxy config is used to set the ArcGIS Server services that the proxy will forward to. mustMatch: true to only proxy to sites listed, false to proxy to any site --> <ProxyConfig mustMatch="true"> <serverUrls> <!-- serverUrl options: url = location of the ArcGIS Server, either specific URL or stem matchAll = true to forward any request beginning with the url token = (optional) token to include for secured service dynamicToken = if true, gets token dynamically with username and password stored in web.config file's appSettings section. --> <serverUrl url="http://myhost.com/arcgis/rest/services/" matchAll="true"></serverUrl> </serverUrls> </ProxyConfig> I can access the map layer query service by this url (host name is changed): http://myhost.com/proxy/proxy.ashx?http://myhost.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/test/huc_centerpts/MapServer/0/query Looking at the NET traffic, it appears this is what is being requested, but I am seeing this error: Error: Unable to load http://myhost.com/proxy/proxy.ashx?http://myhost.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/test/huc_centerpts/MapServer/0/query status:0

I have ArcGIS Server Enterprise with ArcSDE/PostgreSQL running on one windows XP machine. All queries, including spatial queries are working as expected. Then I moved the data and maps to another installation of ArcGIS Server Enterprise on Windows 2008 Server 64bit with ArcSDE/PostgreSQL on a separate Windows 2008 Server 64bit. I can re-run the javascript against the new installation and all of the spatial queries return an error: TypeError: _297 is null (undefined="null", undefined="[object Object]")arcgis?v=2.2 (line 48) (undefined="null")arcgis?v=2.2 (line 14) _144()arcgis?v=2.2 (line 14) _142(undefined="null")arcgis?v=2.2 (line 14) (undefined="null")arcgis?v=2.2 (line 14) _144()arcgis?v=2.2 (line 14) _142(undefined="[object Object]")arcgis?v=2.2 (line 14) [Break On This Error] If I comment out the code that includes the spatial query, the data is returned just fine. Here is the code where I am having problems. The query results are never returned and the inline function does not get executed: pquery.returnGeometry = false; pquery.outFields = ["*"]; pquery.geometry = geometry; pquery.spatialRelationship = query.SPATIAL_REL_CONTAINS; pquery.where = "length (huc_id) = 8"; hucCtrFeatureLayer.selectFeatures(pquery, esri.layers.FeatureLayer.SELECTION_NEW, function (features) { if (features.length > 0) { dojo.byId("messages").innerHTML = "HUC 8 Features found: " + features.length; } else { dojo.byId("messages").innerHTML = "No HUC 8 features found."; } }, displayErr); If I comment out these 2 lines, the query works just fine: pquery.geometry = geometry; pquery.spatialRelationship = query.SPATIAL_REL_CONTAINS; This same error is occurring for all spatial queries regardless of the layers. I checked for spatial indexing and the layers being queried are showing they have a spatial index. Any ideas? Thanks.
