After looking at this issue for the hundredth time...I realized that I had completely looked into the error message too much! All I had to do to resolve the issue is copy the Trimble GPS Analyst Toolbox from my install location on the C drive (C:\Program Files\Trimble\GPS Analyst\ArcToolbox\ToolBoxes) to the Toolbox folder of my ArcGIS installation location (C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\ArcToolbox\Toolboxes). I was feeling as though there was something more to the issue, when it was very simple to resolve - and we are off GPS'ing!

We are currently running ArcMap 10 SP4, as well as ArcPad 10. When we install Trimble GPS Analyst 2.40, everything appears to install just fine. We also run the updater, and apply the one update to the main software. The extension is available and the toolbar shows just fine. We can then export data to our GPS units, and collect as normal. We run into an issue however when trying to check data back in. Every time we attempt to check in data we receive the following error message: "The Trimble GPS Analyst extension toolbox has not been installed. Please use the ArcGIS Toolbox Manager to install it from the Toolbox sub folder, which can be found in the GPS Analyst installation folder." I've looked for the ArcGIS Toolbox Manager and couldn't find it. I did however use the ArcToolbox window in ArcCatalog to add the Trimble GPS Analyst Tools to ArcToolbox. This however did not resolve my issue as I still get the same error message. Another interesting twist is that I have tried to run the repair option for GPS Analyst to see if that will resolve the issue, and that seems to simply remove the GPS Analyst toolbar as an option in ArcMap, as well as remove GPS Analyst as an Extension in ArcMap. Any help is greatly appreciated as we have several users who have been unable to use GPS capabilities. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply! I should have been a little more specific - I'm not looking to use Network Analyst routing, cost matrix, service area, etc functions, but rather simply use the network dataset I've created as the routing service used in the "Find Route" (Tools - Find Route) tool that comes prepackaged with ArcReader. You can choose any of the default online locators and routing services, or you can preset your own using a custom locator and a custom network dataset to find detailed turn-by-turn directions between two points in your ArcReader application. As an update, I did attempt to just copy the geodatabase that has the network and all associated data layers in it and so far it appears to have worked just as I had hoped! The end user can use my custom network to find directions between two locations through ArcReader and does not need to have any ArcGIS Desktop components (or licensing!!) available. Keeping my fingers crossed that once this gets loaded onto the end user machines there is still success 🙂 Thanks again! Stephanie

Hi, I've gone through and created a network dataset on our servers, but now would like to share that network with an agency who is not part of our County network (nor can they be granted access to our network). Since I'd like the end user to use our network for routing inside of ArcReader, I need to share the network with them. I can't package the data because the network is a "non-simple feature". Any suggestions on the best way to do this? Can I simply export/copy the geodatabase that contains the network and associated layers to the end user, even though they do not have any ArcGIS licensing, just ArcReader? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks! Stephanie

Thank you! That did work very well for me. I had run some geoprocessing events on the dataset prior, so I did have to run "Make Feature Layer" before I could start the selections/calculate field processing. In the end though, it works beautifully. Thanks for your help 🙂

Hi! I'm attempting to rebuild a VBA macro that I have using Model Builder but ran into a stumbling block. I have a dateset that I need to calculate the next inspection date for each feature, but that inspection date will vary based on what type of feature it is. Feature type "1" is inspected again in 365 days, feature type "2" is inspected in 180 days, and feature type "3" is inspected in 120 days. Ideally I simply select the features that match a type, calculate the next inspection date, then run the process again for types 2 and 3 all within the same shapefile. I'd prefer not to select the features and export each type into a new table (thus resulting in 3 new tables when they need to all be in the same table). Any ideas on how I can accomplish this in Model Builder? Thanks!! Stephanie

Thanks for the replies! The "IsNothing" removed the error and I was able to successfully create the build! Huge step for me! However, after adding the add-in to ArcMap, the software crashed which leads me to believe I have some other error floating around in there. Thanks for the help here though - and for that website - great resource 🙂

Despite the fact that I am a novice, I'm looking to upgrade some coding from VBA to VB.net. I literally have gone from 102 errors, down to 1 - and am stuck! This small section essentially searches through a table which has multiple inspection locations and each location can have several inspection dates. I need to query that table in ArcMap to find all the unique inspection locations and the most recent inspection date for that location. The original coding (that I had incredible help with developing thanks to the forums!!) worked beautifully for 2 years, but I'm running into an issue now with the 'Do Until IsEmpty (value)' line. I'm getting an error message that "Name 'IsEmpty' is not declared". Any ideas?? The original coding is as follows: Sub SelectRecordsForMaxFieldValue_Inspections() 'selects all unique inspections from "Inspections.shp" and most recent date Dim pMxDoc As IMxDocument Dim pFLayer As IFeatureLayer Dim pData As IDataStatistics Dim pCursor As ICursor pMxDoc = My.ArcMap.Document pFLayer = pMxDoc.FocusMap.Layer(1) 'change the index according to the layer of interest pCursor = pFLayer.Search(Nothing, False) 'Create the new table that the selected records will populate. pData = New DataStatistics pData.Field = "typeAndNum" 'change to match FC attribute with multiple records pData.Cursor = pCursor 'this is the same cursor created above Dim pEnumVar As IEnumVariantSimple Dim value As Object pEnumVar = pData.UniqueValues value = pEnumVar.Next Dim pFeatureSelection As IFeatureSelection pFeatureSelection = pFLayer 'QI Dim pActiveView As IActiveView pActiveView = pMxDoc.ActiveView Do Until IsEmpty(value) Dim pQF As IQueryFilter pQF = New QueryFilter pQF.WhereClause = "typeAndNum = '" & value & "'" 'change to match FC attribute with multiple records Dim pFc As ICursor Dim pTable As ITable pTable = pFLayer pFc = pTable.Search(pQF, False) Dim pDataStats1 As IDataStatistics pDataStats1 = New DataStatistics pDataStats1.Field = "dt_stamp" 'FC attribute you want the most recent value of pDataStats1.Cursor = pFc Dim pDataStatResults1 As IStatisticsResults pDataStatResults1 = pDataStats1.Statistics 'Create the query filter Dim pQueryFilter As IQueryFilter pQueryFilter = New QueryFilter pQueryFilter.WhereClause = "typeAndNum = '" & value & "' AND dt_stamp = date '" & Format(pDataStatResults1.Maximum, "MM/DD/YYYY") & "'" pActiveView.PartialRefresh(esriViewDrawPhase.esriViewGeoSelection, Nothing, Nothing) 'Flag original selection pFeatureSelection.SelectFeatures(pQueryFilter, esriSelectionResultEnum.esriSelectionResultAdd, False) 'Perform the selection pActiveView.PartialRefresh(esriViewDrawPhase.esriViewGeoSelection, Nothing, Nothing) 'Flag the new selection value = pEnumVar.Next Loop Thanks in advance for any help/ideas! Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I actually found an existing thread (eventually!!) that allowed me to do what I needed. Using a combination of the Left and InStr functions as found in this post, http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/28351-VBScript-Left()-amp-InStr()-functions-ArcView-10, I was able to get what I needed! Thanks again!

Hi! I've had this issue in the past, and don't think I've ever come up with a great way to resolve it other than doing a manual cut/paste for each field. I have one field of attributes that has an address and a direction (100 S Main St - 2NW; 1343 W Kimberly Rd - 3WSE; etc) and I need to calculate just the address portion (100 S Main St; 1343 W Kimberly Rd; etc) into a new field. I know that I can use the Left/Mid/Right functions to remove a specific number of characters from a string, but my proplem is that that number will vary. Is there any way that I can calculate only the characters to the left of the hyphen (as all attributes have the hyphen) into a new field? Or by the same token, remove all characters to the right of, and including, the hyphen? Thanks in advance! Stephanie

Unfortunately no. I haven't done too much testing with ArcGIS 10 as we're moving to a XenApp environment (and thus, I'm sure that will have it's own bunch of fun issues to work through!). The locator seems to be persistant in 9.3.1 with the registry changes - for now at least.

I think I answered my own question, but not how I was hoping. I did find this thread that still seems to work even though it is a bit outdated - http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=1170&t=246201#833168 This doesn't solve my issue entirely as I would need to adjust the registry of every user the application goes out to. Since we only have less than 50 users as of now, it is something that could be done. Still looking for any other solutions out there if there are any 🙂 Stephanie

You may have already tried this but I've usually gotten around that issue by ensuring that my table data has the street name, in your case the entire "E C Row", in one field of the table I'm attempting to geocode. Then when setting up the locator, I leave the Prefix field empty ("none"). Good luck! Stephanie

After another issue arose regarding the multiple returned geocode results in ArcGIS Server.Net, I did find that apparently there is a bug (NIM037331) that disregards the minimum match scores inside the web application. The workaround is to adjust the default.aspx page to the score you want, then restart IIS and viola - everything works. However, in my situation, the default.aspx page is showing the correct score, but somehow the application is returning all search results even though it is set to not do so ("Show all results = FALSE"). Any ideas on why all candidates are still being returned?

I'm absolutely no install/uninstall expert, but if you're missing a file to uninstall, have you tried to reinstall 9.2 to see if it adds that file back in so you can uninstall? I think there also may be a "Modify" option in ArcReader that might help. Good luck!
