Thank you for this information. I was not aware that Esri had its own reprojector. Also I did have some success early on with finding the alternate values in ESRI and using them.... example LL83 would work using EPSG:4269, and UTM83 worked using EPSG:26910. However sometimes it would also cause other errors of incompatibility. Again thank you, for the ideas. I will share with my colleagues. Best regards, Allen

Agree with the approach that Anna has, create a new field with an unique Id. Then label unique number. The only thing I would change from the above would be to insert the table with the labels tied to the unique number. I have done this with Desktop many times. I am sure you could do this in pro.

Hi Dan, We are using a program called Enterprise Architect from Sparx Systems. A company out of Australia. The license level is a professional edition but single use. I am the only one in our organization that deals with schema changes in our enterprise geodatabases. It works well, but has a bit of a learning curve. For a data dictionary, it has a report writer that works well if you tweak the code a bit. (provides too much info about your data) I still use Visio to diagram the data structure though.

Matt, So it turns out that the check out and check in feature actually did work well. There was no lag in the editing process. My previous post was the result of trying to create a replica using the replica wizard, not the geoprocessing tool to create the replica. This resulted in only the historical data getting replicated. With review I found this document on how to set up a replica with Parcel Fabric: http://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/manage-data/editing-parcels/parcelfabricreplication.htm I did change to help doc for our version 10.5, but there is something on the 10.6 version as well. I have some more testing to do, but we may recommend switching to this work flow for our parcel fabric editing. Regards Allen

Nope, check out check In, didn't work. Other replicas didn't either. Oh well slow system. Slow progress. One thing that did help a tad was to save the data connection to a diffrent server. This did help a bit.

I also have a similar issue. I am wondering if a check out check in option might work. Dose anyone know if this type of Replication works with Parcel Fabric.

We are having similar issues, but are on 10.5.1, we are thinking maybe we can use a check out check in to help prevent the slowness, have you, or others tried this? I am still trying to find out if that is even an option.

Ok, that make a lot more sense. The next question would be why did it speed up the editing process? Is this a valid edit work flow, will it cause problems with the original database in the future? Regards, Allen

Good Morning Jay, Actually all I did was right click on the database and Copy. Then created a folder to place what I thought would be a file geodatabase. Then posted the file. Normally I would have created a file geodatabase and copied the data set in. I was in a demo at the time and wanted to get the fabric data moved out of SDE, but not have to go through the whole rebuild and register of Parcel Fabric. So I took a short cut. We are in an isolated Test virtual server, with full duplication from our working environment. It (test server) was created as a SQL backup, then Restore. Regards Allen

Yesterday I was trying to isolate my parcel fabric SDE database, and actually copied the instance to another virtual server. When noticing that it was my version and that it still showed that I could reconcile and post my updates, I had expected that I created a one or two way replication. As this was a test environment I continued to edit in the isolated database. After I saved my edits I went to the original database with my administrative account and there was no replica created. Yet all my edits showed up, and no rec-post was performed. So some how, even though I was on a different server, I was still editing directly to the original SDE database. One thing that was quite noticeable is that the file performance increased at its new location. So now I have many questions. 1) Having this as a connected instance to the original, what is happening behind the scenes? Will this cause problems later on in the database? How is it still passing information across between vertical servers, when there isn't a replication? 2) How will this affect the version, and versioning environment. Should the copied database instance be removed before compress, when other versions are removed? 2) Is this a valid work flow, as the performance dramatically increased? I am not in our IT department, and do not have control of the of the SQL Server manager to look at the system tables. I am however one of the DBO admins for the database, and control operations through ArcCatalog. It was quite a shock on Friday when all this was going on. Had me thinking about it all weekend. So any insights on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Francesca. If it is an access database, you could create an OLE DB connection to the access table, and pull in the table. Then you could create a join to another feature class. Then export to a new file. I do not know if this would work in PRO. Example I have used, is a ole db connection to an access table that contains all Variances in our city over the past 40 years... join it to an address table, and export it out as a new Variance file. Hey I know you posted this a few years ago. Were you able to get Attribute Assistant to work for you with parcel fabric, and custom fields? We have been using Fabric now for about a year, and would like to start automating some of the attributes. Regards, Allen Wright City of Las Cruces rwright@las-cruces.org

I usually have to export out the existing schema as an XML workspace document, then edit the schema with XML Notepad. This works for simple changes, like spelling mistakes, or order changes, but not for complicated modifications. We have purchased outside software to help us print our data dictionary, and copy paste in to Visio to get the diagrams organized. It would be nice if this was built into an ESRI product, instead of purchasing outside software to do it.

So just to be clear is the folder your trying to connect to is a share folder off of a server: If so when defining the location of the "folder" put the machine name in the search. example. Our data is on a server with a share folder called shape files. In ArcMap the mapped drive is S:\ the actual path of the data is \\clc-esri-02\ shapefiles....but all you see in ArcMap is the mapped drive of S:\ So If you connect directly to the server by typing in the path at the Add folder connection the folder is listed. Hope this is helpful.

Great question, I work for a medium size municipality and had tried a department split by database, so that our Utilities was in one, Public Works in another, Raster in another, and general edit database for everything else. Then replicate all to a production database that all others (non editors, public) could get current info from. It was all still on one SQL instance. This worked to isolate editing, so that utilities editors could edit utilities data and so forth, but limited use for other editors. It also increased the amount of management for all the databases. We have since moved to the Local Government model for all edits. Similar set up to what James Crandall discussed. We have one database for all edits, that replicate to a production database (view only), with a static database for raster / contour info, a back up, and test database. The replication is handled on a nightly sync that is automated, so that production is only 1 day older than edit. All services are pulled form production. It is working well, with less management, and other editors are not limited by what they have access to. We have started utilizing table views to stream line what some users need in production. I will say its a bit slower than how it was, but for me only managing it in my spare time, it is a better fit. However we are thinking of now isolating our parcel fabric to its own database because of the sheer volume of records, and transactions. Hope this is helpful for you Matt. Thank you Vince I was not aware how the RDBMS handle datasets I will consider this for future Regards Allen
