I have received a couple of e-mails indicating my prior post is not very clear and hard to follow. Below is my best try: 1. Use Batch Point Generation Tool to create a point layer containing your reservoir points/locations. Make sure those points are on the DEM streams. 2. Make sure your point layer has following fields: Descript, BatchDone, and SnapOn. If there are not in your point file, add them and populate them. 3. Run Batch Subbasin Delineation Tool to further delineate subbasins for those reservoirs; Those reservoir points will be added into your ProjectPoint layer. 4. Make sure the Type and HyElmType fields in the ProjectPoint layer are populated with "5" and "Reservoir" respectively. Please refer to Chapter 8 of the User Manual, Batch Subbasin Delineation.

Please help me with computational methods (references or program codes) for calculating flow area and wetted perimeter of non-regular cross sections. This is needed to calculate flood depth using the Manning's normal depth method assuming the cross section is defined with station and elevation data. Thanks!

With latest Geo-HMS build up, one can run the Longest Flow Path funtion on a selected set of streams at once. Thanks to the software development team for making this new option available.

After a number of tries, I have used following two approaches to avoid the error: 1. Merge your subbasins before running the Longest Flow Path tool. My limited experience indicated my computer system can handle 120 or less subbasins. 2. Or select a subset of your basins (I selected 50 at once) to run the Longest Flow Path tool. Ignore the output file already exists message when you run your 2nd selected basins, the results will be appended to the existing file. Note: Plase download the latest build of ArcHydro and GeoHMS tools and clean your Temp folder from time to time.

I am happy to report back to this Hydro community that reservoirs (HydroNodes) can be automatically created using the latest GeoHMS. I used following process: 1. Create a BatchPoint file to include your reservoirs points. 2. Run Batch Subbasin Delineation Tool to further delineate subbasins for those reservoirs; Those reservoir points will be added into your ProjectPoint layer. 3. Make sure the Type and HyElmType fields in the ProjectPoint layer are populated with "5" and "Reservoir" respectively.

For GeoHMS, Type = 5 for Reservoir and 6 for Diversion. Christine Dartiguenave Esri Water Resources Team Christine, Thank you very much for your answer! I figured out "5" was the value for reservoir this morning by accident. I am glad my HMSNode layer contains those reservoir nodes, and hope I will spend less time in defining them in HMS.

I am running GeoHMS (version 10.1.0.42) on ArcGIS 10.1, and got same error message while running the Longest Flow Path. The error message is listed below: WARNING 010353: The environmental cell size is ignored. at ESRI.ArcGIS.Geometry.ITopologicalOperator.Intersect(IGeometry other, esriGeometryDimension resultDimension) at ESRI.APWR.ApHydro.ArcHydroOp.ComputeLongestFlowpath(ApLayers apLayers, Int32 debug, ITrackCancel& trackcancel, IGPMessages& messages, String& exMessage, IRaster costRaster) Failed to execute (LongestFlowpath). I am having difficulties in running the Longest Flow Path process. My project has over 200 subbasins. It runs for several hours, then failed with "losing ArcGIS license server" message. I wonder if I am going to use the CN Lag method for reach routing, Do I still need to run the Longest Flow Path, Basin Cntroid, and the Centroidal Flow path?

In the ProjectPoint layer, the HyElemType field has values for Diversion, Junction, Reservoir, Sink and Source. Can anyone let me know what are the corresponding numeric values in the field of Type? I created a BatchPont layer representing reservoirs. After running he Batch Subbasin Delineation, those points were added into the ProjectPoint layer as "Junctions". I wonder if I can rename them back as "Reservoirs". I used Field Calculator to assign "Reservoir" to HyElemType field, but don't know if the Type field also needs to be changed and what value needs to be. The numeric value for a Junction is 15. Thanks.

I run into the same issue recently and did a workaround outside of the Geo-HMS. The Zonal Statistics as a Table in Spatial Analyst was used to create a CN Grid table for each HydroID in the subbasin layer. This table was joined to the subbasin layer first, and then the field calculation was used to populate the CN field.

Mark, Thank you for your clarification! I have created a HMS model using the GeoHMS, but realized it is too much of work to manually insert all those reservoirs. During the Terrain Processing, I already created an AgreeDEM so the reservoirs were not filled. I am going to use the Batch Subbasin Delineation to further delineate subbasins for all reservoir points. When creating those points, what type should I use: outlet or inlet? I was hoping for a reservoir type. In HMS model, I know I can insert reservoirs at those reservoir joints/points. Do I need to delete those joints and then replace them with reservoirs, or is there anyway to convert/redefine those joints as reservoirs? For the reservoir routing, I am going to develop stage-storage and storage-discharge relationships using the POND program outside of the HMS model, and then associate them to each reservoir.

This step can be completed using the tool in ArcHydro. The tool in GeoHMS only generated an empty feature class. BTW, I am using the latest tools running on ArcGIS 10.1.
