Thank you all for your help. Stepping in as the only GIS person with no one to help become familiar with what has been set up and what data has been collected has been quite a learning experience. I have since found a text file with all of the log ins and passwords for all of the GIS utilities that have been set up. Thank you again.

Ok. So I've made some progress, Thanks Mr. Fox for your first suggestion article. With some help using the command prompt, I was able to run resetpassword.bat and put in the command to return the username (./passwordreset -l), agssite, so at least I have that now. Now I'm trying to change the password and getting the following message: Any suggestions?

When I run resetpassword.bat, a password is not returned. The windows command prompt comes up with a black screen and closes again.

I'm not sure but, I believe I would need to be able to access the ArcGIS Server Manager to do this, and I do not have any log in information to log into it.

I currently just started a new position as a GIS Specialist. ArcGIS for Server is set up with multiple web apps, I am attempting to access ArcGIS Server Manager as well as connect to the SDE Geodatabases on the server through ArcCatalog (database authentication); however, my predecessor did not leave any log in information for the server site administrator or any other user. I am attempting to contact the previous specialist, but in the mean time, I am unable to connect to our primary GIS Data on the server other than through old maps that were left for me. I have tried to recall the administrator password through ResetPassword.bat, without success. My IT department has been unable to help me. If any of you would have any insight on this, it would be appreciated.

The same thing happens regardless of being in a model. It happens in running the model, running the Rename Tool by itself, and running it in the python window itself. Ill look into a list or script. Thank you.

I am using all of these tools in a model. Please see the screenshot below. This is one line of the model which 1) iterates through a gdb does a test to see if a feature class has a specific name, 2) if it does, it creates a feature layer, 3) saves it to a layer file and 4) gives the layer a specific symbology. I am carrying the feature class name through the process using inline variables, but when I try to use an inline variable within the save to layer file, I get an error "Item not found in this collection". If I leave it blank, it will attach "Save_to_Layer_File".

Thank you Dan. Renaming the original dataset will work, however, when I go to save it as a layer file, ArcGIS attaches "_Save_to_Layer_File" at the end of each feature class, hence the need for the renaming process on the layers. Is there any way to stop it from attaching this to each feature class name?

I used the rename tool to rename a set of layers. However, when I ran it, it renamed them in the catalog tree but not in the Layer Properties or when added to a map. See screen shots below. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, So I tried your suggestion and I am receiving the following error: Here is my model stripped down to one line, from 44, (the full model tests each layer name for 44 possible names so that the correct symbology can be applied): And my script in Calculate Value to identify the names of the input feature classes in order to determine the correct symbology: Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to create layers from feature classes in a geodatabase and ultimately applying standard symbology at the end. To do this I started a model with an iterator running through each feature class, and with a script, checking the name of each feature class and seeing if it matches one of the feature class names on the right side of the model. I am stuck at incorporating the script into the model. Any help would be appreciated. My started script and model are below. def namechk(int): if str Name == "Survey_Calculated_Boundary_Monument": return 1 else: return 0

Thanks for the reply Dan. I ran the model again and it creates both the layer and the feature class successfully. I refreshed all file locations and restarted Catalog; however, the layer is referencing the output feature class from the Select tool, which is not created. It seems that any feature class that i want to create a layer from is in tern not created, only the layer is created. I cannot figure out how to get both without having the layer referencing a FC that does not exist.

So, now I am having another problem, both the feature class and the layer are being created but when I preview the layer in catalog, I get the message below: The layer is referencing the output of the select tool, which isn't created, the copy is created through the copy features tool. I tried changing the input for the make feature layer from the select output to the output of the Copy tool, but now the feature class is not being created at all and I am getting the same message from the layer. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for all of your responses. I followed Dan's suggestion, using the copy features tool, and it works now. Prior to this, I was using the feature class to feature class tool, which I could not get to work and I still don't understand why. Thank you again for all the help, I have put a screen shot of my model below:

I am doing a Select on a feature class, specifying an output gdb location, creating a Feature Layer and then creating a Layer File out of the Feature Class output. However only the layer file is created in the output folder and no feature class is created in the gdb. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be? Any help would be appreciated.
