Hey, I think I figured it out....The index field that has 1's for what I want to label had <NULL> as the value for the one's I do not want to label. Once I changed that to a 0 it labeled them like I wanted. thanks you so much for the clarification. I will keep that script.

I copied both of these scripts and I still am getting an error! here is a screen shot of the script and error: I guess the previous people who were trying to help in what I thought was Python, were giving me the VB script! Why does this still not work?

James, Here is my modification. I have a string field called Line_typ which has the contours I want to label as major. Do I need to have an integer field like you do in the example and have values for each of the line types to choose a number for all those that are called major that I want to label or can I use that string field? This did not work. Siran

I need assistance with labeling also. I am new to Python and I may have posted this but I am going to try to get your assistance on this since I've been reading your answers to this string from Barton. I am trying to label contours that are designated as "major" which are the rounded number in the values fields--300, 350, 400, etc. and not label all of the contours. I've been in the Python mode, advanced checked in the label expression dialog box but how do I Find a label in one field and label it some value from another field? Is this possible?

I have a attribute table for contours every 10 feet but would like to label ONLY the major contours using the value specified in the Contour field. Found some similar messages but can't get the syntax correct. Please help. New to Python.

according to the article in Spring 2013 Arc User, we are supposed to be able to right click on the arrow next to a layer in a map created, which I have posted on my content, and choose Filter. I do not see the ability to choose and create a filter. Its simply not there.

I converted some raster data to polygon(s) because I want to calcluate acreage of the extent of this layer. All I had was a jpg (raster) which I converted to polygons (Conversion Tools> Raster to Polygon) I added a fieldl and tried to caclulate acreage but it looks like it just calculated each of the 316707 pixels @ 2.61 acres. Does this seem correct if I summarized the Acres field?

The tool ran fine I think because it created the routes, outer poly, channel and break polys. However, attached is a list of errors that came up after the tool completed. I will still have to manually add the n-values field to those polygons to see where they change. This information is in the point files. Aside from that, I think this should work for my purposes. I'm not sure if correcting the errors will give us those values I still need but I can enter them in a new field in the polygon feature classes.
