Bumping this a little more...the first thread I found was from 2014. Nearly 10 years later and this is still a thing? Really? I wanted to come here and find that the problem had been solved already. 😊

Hey everyone, I've used data driven pages for the standard kind of mapbook moving around a larger area. I'm trying to use data driven pages to create some output with details and maps on each page for a given feature. For this example, I'll say that I've got a bunch of lakes across a state and I want to use data driven pages to have a page for each lake with some lake data. If I have a feature class of lakes, any tips for spitting out an index of a best fit around each lake? Additional challenges: lakes are different sizes (i think i'll have to have a scale attribute), some lakes are next to each other (so the index needs to be okay with some overlap). Thank you in advance! I'm going to not check this over the weekend so apologies for the quiet on my side! 🙂

As a solution to the challenge, I ended up adding some additional fields to the dataset with a join and then added in the joined layers a few times with definition queries on that joined data and then I imported the symbology from the earlier selection layers. I still ended up having to recreate the annotation layer though. I was able to copy/paste the label properties/expressions from the earlier selection layer to the new definition queries layer so that I didn't have to recreate all the variations of the label classes but I still had to export it to annotation again and move everything around. I think this whole exercise is going to alter how I use selection layers though, I may not want to use them in the future...because I can't seem to get them to change once they've been created. Thanks for any additional help

No problem elaborating...I updated some entries in a related table which then made it meet the original selection query but it didn't update in the selection layer. Thanks!

I've got a large feature class and I created four selection layers based on some SQL queries (Create Layer From Selected Features). I've since symbolized this selections and created labels and exported them to annotations to make the placement pretty. I'm a few iterations of maps down the road and now I need to add one feature from the larger dataset into one of the selections. I also need to remove some features but I can choose not to display them and sort it later...so I'm not worried about deleting them for the moment though. How do I just add one more feature from the larger feature class into the selection layer? I can do the export again and import the symbology and perhaps re-associate the annotation with the new layer but is there some quick/easy way to modify the selection that made the layer? Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone, Happy Wednesday! I’m working with a fairly messy dataset and it’s riddled with topology and gap errors. Presumably all of the errors are going to be fixed at some point but for the moment I’m trying to focus on the big overlaps. Have any of you used the topology toolset in ArcMap and specified a numerical area for overlaps? Show me all the overlap that is more than 2,000 square meters. I can’t seem to find an answer on the internet for this…because I’m probably not using the right words in my search. ***so I sent the above email to my work and Jane from below sent me an email asking if I exported the topology errors to a separate feature class using the Export Topology Error Tool - this was the solution. I figured that I would post a question about it just in case someone else has another method or if someone is looking for the answer to this question. Thanks! Christina Jane Schafer-Kramer

I think keeping the mappy world running is one of my most important things that I keep in mind when I migrate to a new computer but as evinced by my train wreck that was yesterday, I forget about how important that is to me...and how many minutes add up to hours to fix everything again back to how I like it. It would be really neat if there could be a geoprocessing tool (or python). That could copy all of my folder connections and my database connections and server connections and whatnot...and heck, while I'm dreaming, all the toolbars I have open and where I like them (if you have New, Open, Save, Print anywhere but upper top left, you might be a serial killer). Dreamweaver has a nice function that lets you save/export all your site information/connections, I suppose that I would like something to be able to export this file and something else to suck it up and move stuff. It might be handy for setting up a new install for an employee who is new to the office. We have some python scripts we use for setting up database connections but all my stupid folder connections that I forgot to even screenshot...are annoying to reconnect.

Does this mean that consumers of apps made with the social media feeds > instagram layer need to login to view instagram content? (it's what it appears like now, just want to make sure I'm not missing something) Thanks!

Hey folks, I'm looking to see if anyone has had success disabling the "generalize features for web display" functionality in the add data widget under the file tab. In general, this is great for rapid web display but specifically for our project we had it there so non-mappers could do QA/QC on some map stuff and they're seeing errors that aren't there because their file they upload is being generalized. At this moment we just have told folks but I'd like to remove this option for this application in particular. Thanks in advance! - Christina

If you click on organize within flickr you can have collections and albums…you can also organize into galleries. I think what is being labeled as sets are what is called an album within flickr. Here are my permission settings under my flickr account, I suspect it’s somewhere here that is limiting the accessibility. Try looking at your settings to see if there’s anything set differently than mine:
